It is getting hot though. I can tell you, because I actually did slide just for a foot maybe when climbing. I had the same kind of burns that I had, when I tried to lift the cover from a pot that was in the oven at 200°C...Slashing. It is abrasion not literal burning. Even if it wasn't it seems more on theme for a raging barbarian to be able to take less damage from it than for a, say, a fire genasi.
As for the idea to make it just potentially give disadvantage on tasks with your hands, that's the sort of mechanic that is intellectually pleasing as a rule and feels fair, but that ends up either trivial or absolutely debilitating to the character neither of which seem very conducive to actual fun.
Friction creates heat, and heat does deal fire damage in 5e.It is getting hot

It is also a method to start a fire... no with hands on rope, but wood on wood. But I do agree, that a barbarian should be less effected than a firegenasi. I like the wisdom save to not let go. Or probably it is a con save in 5e, because a concentration check is also shaking off the pain and continue to concentrate.
Yes. But it is not only heat but also abrasion. It hurts a lot I can tell you. But I would never have died. I might have died if I wasn't secured. So a concentration check to not let go from hurt seems right. And even if you don't let go, something like disadvantage on everything you do woth your hands seems appropriate. I think here there might be a situation where partial and extraordinary success seems appropriate. Maybe 2 Con saves. First one vs DC 15 to hold on or not. Second one vs DC 20 if you held on, vs DC 10 if you let go to determine how much your hands are hurt.Friction creates heat, and heat does deal fire damage in 5e.
I still feel like rope burn doesn’t seem like something that would deal damage, unless it’s really severe.
I voted other because it should be none, it doesn't cause damage in the sense of HP loss IMO. The pain would make you let go before that threshold would be reached. shrugHi folks.
What damage type would you take when sliding down a rope and burning your hands?
