RPG Book Club July

One more thought

After reading through this book and comparing it with other recent city/setting offerings, I think that Green Ronin needs to follow suit after Malhavoc (with Ptolus) and Paizo and make a player's guide. There is a lot of info about Freeport that natives of the setting would know, but this book is riddled with secret info and thus probably not best to be handing to all the players.

I couldn't agree more. I am not running a campaign in Freeport but it is going to be part of the world. One of the players is playing a Pirate and in his back story he has been and spent a lot of time in Freeport. I gave him a spare copy of the book I had and while he'll be reading many secrets its doubtful they will impact too much as it is not the center of the campaign. But a players guide would really have been perfect for him.

What system are you using? Did you consider using something differnent?

I'm not sure if you were asking me but I'm using 3.5 with some house rules.

In my high level game the party used a plane shift to try to get to Ptolus from Concordant Opposition and arrived hundreds of random miles away so I needed a location and decided Freeport would be it. Our party paladin felt certain that Freeport was important to the quest he was on because they landed there and stuff was going on. Shortly after that the campaign continued but shifted DMs and the paladin contacted my character who had been soloing under one of the Co-DMs for a couple of year meet them there. The Co-DM took the Freeport thing and ran with it and so the demonic drow we are after were pirates in the Serpent's Teeth area who hijacked a ship my character used to sail on.

In my Freeport trilogy pbp game I run it is 3.5 as well. I wanted to run a second 3.5 pbp game but with a different feel than my Wildwood one. I didn't consider other systems for running it, d20 3.5 is my current system of choice.

Anyone else read this? Play with this? Use it for systems other than D&D 3.5? True20 and C&C fans have anything to say? Savage worlds? Systems that won't have a companion book? GURPS? Hero? Runequest? (Ducks in Freeport... imagine the possibility).

Okay, the book club had another slow month. Next month (you know, 2 days from now) is going to be a very good third party d20 book. The book is nominated for two ENnies and it suprised me with how good it is. It had flown under my radar which is a shame.

Let me guess - Witchhunter.
