RPG Collecting

First Post
While I know just about anyone that plays RPGs has an RPG collection, I was wondering if there was anyone on these boards that specifically collected RPGs, whether it just be in general or certain settings, brands, etc.? Or even RPG-related type collections, such as dice, miniatures, etc.?

Before getting out of RPGs I had just started collecting DragonLance items, from the modules to the novels. I had even gathered a couple of the SAGA box sets (even though I hate the SAGA system). While I did intend to read the novels sooner or later, I had doubts of the modules ever getting played and I'm positive the SAGA sets were never gonna be played. Of course, when getting out of RPGs, I got rid of all that DragonLance stuff, except for the novels. And of course, now I'd like to try and collect those things again. Live and learn I guess.

So what are the collection stories for others and what are the collections like? Thanks.

I think I'm just a whore for D&D (or d20) products. I find myself getting caught up in buying things. In the 2e days I only really played in Mystara, yet somehow I ended up with stuff for Ravenloft and the Council of Wyrm book before I pulled back and said, "I don't use that." Same thing happened to me with 3e. I bought the FRCS for the crunch and decided to run in FR since most of my players at the time knew it. That said, I resisted the urge to buy too much FR stuff. However, I've got a bunch of Ravenloft, Scarred Lands, Dragonstar, and Midnight stuff on my shelf I don't use. I've managed to pull back (again), really only buying Blackmoor and Iron Kingdoms (plus the Eberron Campaign Setting book, again, for the crunch).

I'm kind of a setting whore, I guess.

I was still buying stuff during a 5 year non-playing drought.
I own about 700 pre 3E items (which is not much when you see how much FR stuff in 2E there is) and about 200 3E items.
I like collecting just to read the books/modules/boxsets even if I know I will never play them as is. (Of course I have 8 Al-Qadim box sets which are still in shrink wrap, I can't make myself open them just to read them).
I have slowed way up on my pre 3E purchases, just getting things here and there that are a bargain and am very picky about my post 3E buys. I was buying everything in sight then I decided (well having 2 kids ((and a third on the way)) decided) that maybe since I don't play in Kalamar as an example I really don't need more than the 12 products I already have.

Someday I would like to have a near complete collection when I can afford it but for now I must choose what I want and pick up a bargain here or there when I can.

I've been gaming since September 1975.

I had one 2-year drought with no gaming.

Other than that, I game.

Due to these statements, I have a very large collection (too large???) of rpgs. I am also a well-known packrat and it takes dynamite to pry something out of my hands, much to the chagrin of my bookshelves. So I still have my original D&D books, my original Traveller books, my original Chivalry & Sorcery book, my original Empire of the Petal Throne book, my original (2nd ed) RuneQuest book, etc. I can't claim that any of these are in great condition, but I do keep them, for sentimental value if nothing else.

If I put all my books out, it would fill a bookshelf 7' tall, 5' wide, and there would still be books laying across other books...

WOW - you guys are making me fell so small-time. My hat is off to you all. . . .700+ purchases!! I bow to your excellence!

Living in a condo in NYC, space is a premium, and my non-game wife asks me to "cull the herd" every once in a while. If I ain't played it in 2 years or more, it's off to eBay.

I collect all things for D&D and D&D-related d20, but I have drawn the line at OGL games (I do not collect those).

I've also stopped buying new (non-WotC) d20 rules releases. I now look to pick those up at 75% off on e-bay (or elsewhere). (I am so tired of new rules I'll never use.)

I still buy all WotC D&D products, and all d20 adventures and campaign settings I can get my hands on.

You all are making me feel weird. My RPG collection spans 3 & 1/2 bookshelves, 6' tall by 2' wide with 5 shelves per bookcase. That's JUST gaming. Minis and Stikfas occupy a chest of drawers and two tackle boxes. THEN there's the library of just pure books. Also 3 of the above mentioned bokshelves. :uhoh:
