RPG Collecting

About the only stuff I have collected are the complete B/X/C/M/I stuff. Basically everything from Holmes Basic forward. I only lack the rare B3 modules, and really don't care to own a copy. I used to own a reprint 74 boxed set and all the expansions, but sold the boxed set long ago. Even still own Outdoor Survival.

I also have everything TSR ever produced for Lankhmar, including the boardgame and the Dragonsword of Lankhmar 2 book set.

It was so easy in the days of TSR. I only had to collect everything D&D from one company. Now with the OGL it has become a quagmire. I started by just collecting a few 3rd party publishers then that has increased as other publishers came out with good stuff. I don't know were to draw the line, but I have to find a place to stop.

As it stands now I have over 800 pre 3E books. Everything from WoC and 5 other publishers in regards to 3E D&D, and dozens of books from a few others. That in addition to the pride of my collection the complete sets of Dragon and Dungeon magazines.

Good thing I only play D&D!

The only stuff I would say I collect is the old Robotech RPG (now OOP) and now (with Shadowrun 4th Edition on the horizon) SR3.

My DM has so much d20 stuff that I feel no need to acquire any more for myself (save maybe MM1, if I ever want to run a D&D game) as my current needs are more than taken care of with the 5 or so books I have.

Not that I'm not tempted from time to time...

While I know just about anyone that plays RPGs has an RPG collection, I was wondering if there was anyone on these boards that specifically collected RPGs, whether it just be in general or certain settings, brands, etc.? Or even RPG-related type collections, such as dice, miniatures, etc.?
I have a few RPG items I have bought and kept purely because they're collectibles. None of them are particularly valuable. My collection includes White Dwarf #1 (it used to be an RPG mag, you know!), 2 copies of Deities & Demigods with the Cthulhu mythos, an official blister pack of TSR d10s with crayon dating back to the early 80s, some D&D transfers and the 2E 1st level wizard spell cards in Japanese.

I collect books about RPGs and gamers. Within certain criteria, this collection is complete: I have every book on the subject.

I also have over 2000 minis including many early/pretty rare Games Workshop ones. If they came in a box (not a blister pack), then I have the box too. I've also got some early advertising material for GW/Citadel products. I have the first Games Workshop 35mm plastic miniatures (one set of 3 dwarves and one set of 3 orcs) still in their blister packs. Back then, you could get three GW plastic minis for just 75p (US$1.50)!

And I have 2000 or so dice. At least one of my dice, a fair d15, is the only one of its kind in the world. I co-invented it and had it made out of aluminium.

i coulda bought a Rolls Royce by now

I coulda bought a Rolls Royce now if I'd only kept all the stuff that I let go of in the various swings of my gaming interest over the last 25 years.... Needed money for a new RPG, sold some wargames. Needed money for new miniatures, sold some RPGs.

When I see the amount of money being fetched by stuff I sold for a few bucks at cons 20+ years ago, I make myself sick.

i used to own a literal ton(ne) of gaming stuff. that was over 15 years ago.

i don't know how much now. :o

That's far out...

Have you ever had your collection appraised?

Come to think of it...who the heck would appraise RPG collections anyway?

Hi,

I collect now, but I used to sell (or give away) modules and stuff after I'd used them. I had quite a few of the original 1e modules plus lots of the little Traveller booklets but I can't remember what happened to them. I even threw out some of my Dragon magazines when we were running out of space in our one bedroom flat. Oh dear.

Anyway, now I only get rid of stuff from games I don't like!

Cheers

Richard

Whereas I do not think I ever intended to set out to be an RPG 'collector' I guess I have quite a collection that I have amassed over the years. I have James Bond, Top Secret, Superworld, Trinity, Palladium and a whole bunch of other stuff few people would ever want. I guess some day I can get some use out of it.
