RPG Crowdfunding News – Iron Kingdoms, Arcanis, Fading Suns, and more

This week’s article looks at RPG crowdfunding projects ending between July 14 and 28. As with every week, this is a sampling from several crowdfunding sites. I cover several RPGs (core and sourcebooks), a Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 Edition sourcebook, and a convention.

Combined with an undead setting, the Nightmare Empire, you get two sea-based books, Scoundrel’s Guide to the Scharde Islands and Tales from the Blackwater Cantina. If you’ve never done a Privateer Press campaign before, expect a lot of options for books, great art, punchy enemies, miniatures, and more. If you’re interested, check out the campaign page for a link to a preview of the project.

  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: $50 + S/H for the PDF and print versions of the book
  • WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? Is standard magic in 5e getting dull for your players? Do you need revised player powers of all stripes to spice up your campaign? Then check out this book with its new types of magic and 13 unique clerical aspects. In addition, Arcanis’ Paladin is replaced with 14 Holy Champion Orders, and they have an original psionics system. Sure, there are more options like new ancestries, spells, feats, and more, but the stand out is the various magic options. At 448 pages, this book and its setting may be of interest to 5e players that want a new take on some magical options.

Fading Suns gives you a far future feudal campaign, spacefaring, nobles, and barbarians. The latest book on offer details nine star systems, new species, and a ship with deckplans. If you’re a fan of Fading Suns, this is worth checking out. If you’re new to it, there’s a link to a free preview on the campaign page.

Pick an archetype playbook (Scoundrel, Priest, Merchant, etc.) as you escape surreal nightmare worlds inspired by the paintings of Hieronymus Bosch. This hexcrawl is an upgrade from the prior version, offering new playbooks, content, and maps. If you’re looking for an original option that lets you hexcrawl classic nightmare-scapes, beautifully combining paintings and fun, this project is worth checking out.

Here are some of the options: marble of direction, messenger ant, box of bees, conch of the secret voice, wand of cobwebs, and the prismatic gown. A Folklore Bestiary for 5E and OSE.jpg

  • WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? 40 detailed beasts for 5e or Old School Essentials is reason enough to cover this project. You’ll get more than just a stat block, think folklore and gameable material such as dungeons, NPCs, and adventure hooks. 160 pages of fully illustrated monsters means you can expect 4ish pages a monster, that’s a lot to work with. This book sounds interesting but judge your interest with the link to the free preview for both systems on the campaign page.

For many, this project meets gamers with their system of choice. Coming in at over 112 pages of tables and lists for those systems, this book promises a great deal of content to add to your campaign. If you’re a fan of those systems and want a nice cross section of content, this book is worth checking out.

Big Bad Con 2022
  • END DATE: Tue, July 26 2022
  • PROJECT TYPE: Tabletop gaming convention
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE:
  • DATES & LOCATION: October 27 to 30, 2022 at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport
  • CROWDFUNDING ON: IndieGoGo
  • WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? Coming to San Francisco in late October, Big Bad Con returns with more tabletop gaming goodness. This year they’re offering gaming, scholarships, classes, and the change to roleplay with some of the best creators and GMs in indy roleplaying such as Morgan Nuncio, Kandi Williams, Judd Karlman, Shawn Drake, Rae Nedjadi, Banana C, and April Kit Walsh, to name a few. I like the campaign’s stretch goals for bringing more RPG creators to the con, making this more of a temptation to attend. If you’re going to Big Bad Con 2022, I’d love to hear about the experience.
