[RPG] Customisation

In D&D, linear level gain is a good thing - I don't think so for this game. I'd prefer that each level was progressively more difficult to reach than the last one.

I totally agree with that

I notice that Creamsteak's "Fighter" is level 2 (and almost level 3) after only a day or so of this game. Eek!

Morrus - is it possible to change the XP required for each level?

Cheers!

Fighter shall fight 15 bots a day and whatever brave souls are willing to have combat with him. Galen forced Fighter to withdraw, though, by blinding him with his fire! As soon as I can get a gauntlet of ogre power, I shall destroy the evil clan of orcs that slaughtered brave Galen earlier today!

The "curve" for experience is created by the monsters you fight. I can fight kobolds all day now, but it only takes about 3 rounds to kill one. That means I get 3d5 experience per kobold, and eventually that will slow down to 1d5. One method to create a steeper experience curve without re-working the game is to have steeper healing costs and/or monster damage. If I can get 15d5 experience per day from kobolds, or 30d5 from fighting orcs but it costs me more gold than I can afford, then you limit the curve. It would require a lot of math to really figure out the best way to do that, however, so I'm not about to try.

OK, Kalanyr is telling me that using fireball and such is not taking MP away from him. I'm slowly becoming convinced that MP is bugged in such a way that it's entirely useless. If Morrus could show us the code on this one, I'd like to look at it.

This is probably beyond the current code but some sort of free daily healing, (maybe set to jobs schedule) for lower level characters say 0-2 would help people get off the ground.

As it is now I imagine there are a number of people having the experience I had with this and Petz: Make character, lose first fight, wait many days to ever do anything again :(

Yeah, the only time I lose MP is when the Kobold damages me, I've used Fireball, Lightning Bolt, Magic Missile and still have my original MP (strangely it was deducting correctly when I first fought the kobold yesterday and got stumped, I think it may be a bug in the equipment).

Another important thing to consider with balancing creatures and healing, there is a 2 gp to 1 hp ratio currently, we know that it only pays to beat a creature if you take less than one half of it's monetary value in damage (so if you take less than 2.5 damage from a kobold, you "profit" from the fight). So, unless your killing kobolds taking 2.5 damage or less per kobold, you lose money against them in exchange for experience.

I'm not sure what direction to take this information, but I think that it's pretty important to know as far as balancing creatures and their rewards.

That was just as prevalent in petz as it is here. You weren't profitting in your battles with others, but you were having fun.

You're making your money through posts, not beating up stuff. It's the beating up of stuff which is fun, so you feed your habit with more posts. It's a vicious cycle.
