RPG/D&D terms and phrases that are no longer clever or amusing.

Getting back on topic, I could live without hearing nerf again unless I'm reading Sluggy Freelance or I'm in a toy store.
I do believe that this is, in fact, where the term "nerf" comes from: To reduce something from an actually useful skill/ability/weapon into a squishy, harmless foam toy. It came into being when patches for computer games became commonplace and often had this effect on previously existing items.

Now that PnP RPGs receive patches also, the term naturally has spread.

lol

a term i would like to be burned, buried and the site sown with salt.
PC: Politically correct.
People we cannot not offend everyone. It's a game of futility. Somebody's feelings are gonna get hurt eventually. So. Newbies of the world unite! we will topple....
oh wait. I'm getting all crazy again.
Ok. The happy is back.
lol
Seriously. Politically correct has got to go.

I prefer to turn political correctness on its end and run the game in a manner which is guaranteed to be offensive to somebody. If anybody is offended, the rest of the group then belittles him for being a pathetic weakling. It's much more effective to reverse the blame that way, since people whine far less.

Do 'quotes' count under terms and phrases?

If so, I am really tired of hearing Monty Python's Holy Grail movie quotes at the table. It was funny through out high school, college, and my early twenties. But now I'm sick of them. Or at least, I'm sick of them being used at a D&D game session. I still love the movie. The movie is a classic. I'm just sick of hearing the quotes at a D&D table. Been done to death.

Like TiQuinn, I'm sick of the 'Iconic' stuff too. But only when dealing with the 3e world.

I got this feeling I'm going to get burned for having both the above dislikes. :)

GFA - next time we get together to RP, I am going to refer to everything as an acronym. Soon you will see me saying stuff like MIGTGOHHACTESTHD. Translation? Magnus is going to get on his horse and charge the enemy so that he dies. Granted, it will take some adjusting for me in order to speak like that. But we will have to see how it turns out. Regardless, I can;t wait for your reaction. :D

I fastidiously avoid using pokemount, crunch, fluff, splatbook, buff spells, and all other geek terminology.

Geek terminology????? You do realize that every term, be it something found in the rule books like "attack of opportunity" and "armor class", or a term like "splatbook" and "buff spell" is essentially geek speak.

(Please note that I use the term "geek" as an empowering title, instead of the derogatory insult that it originally was meant to be. I quite proudly and loudly proclaim my geekhood to any who will listen, and some who won't. I'm a geek, I'm not meek, so roll for initiative monkey boy.)

I knew someone would say that, but I disagree. There is a difference between basic terms needed to play the game and ancillary terms coined by gamers.
