Freebies and Pay What You Want

Note: While “Pay What You Want” downloads are available for free, please support the creators if you are able!

Starting out on Itch.io, Geek Rampage has The Hobling Goblin by Christian Conkle, an adventure for the “gonzo science fiction fantasy” setting Challengers of Vanth for MÖRK BORG.
  • Price: Free

Over to DriveThru, we have Comet by the Sea from Immersive Adventuring, an adventure location and toolbox for 5e. The setting is an archipelago with a high-resolution regional map, eight encounters, five NPCs, and four quests for different alignments so you can tailor the adventure to your party.
  • Price: Free

Mongoose Publishing has a Christmas present for all Travellers, the remastered version of the classic Traveller adventure Stranded. “Forced to eject from a crippled starship, the Travellers find themselves on a glacier with nothing more than the contents of their survival kits. The only settlement on-planet is 250 km away through rugged terrain, and it appears rescue is not coming.” EDIT: The original adventure this is based on is Loren K. Wiseman's 1981 Marooned. Thanks to @harunmushod for pointing this out.
  • Price: Free

And for another freebie present, Troll Lord Games collected together an entire bundle of their 5e settings and adventures plus three adventures for Castles & Crusades.
  • Price: Free

Marcus L. Rowland released several products based around the Carnacki the Ghost Finder Edwardian horror stories of William Hope Hodgeson. The previous link is to the original novel published in 1913, while the game itself is available in three supplements in the Forgotten Futures IV series using an original system: The Carnaki Cylinders for the setting, The Electric Pentacle Handbook for expanded history, and The Pentacle Files for the adventure.
  • Price: Free

If you want a rules-lite RPG that’s compatible with OSR, 3E, and 5E; then Talent RPG from Maynard promises to fill that niche. The 9-page system includes character creation, full rules, an armory of magic items, a bestiary, and a custom character sheet.
  • Price: Pay What You Want (Suggested: $4.99)

Another unique system is But I’m Just a Gnome… from Marcin “Miroku” Gajosek that, you guessed it, places you in the role of gnomes. Not just any gnomes, but members of a special group sent to make progress in their scientific field of magic, alchemy, or mechanics.
  • Price: Pay What You Want (Suggested: $1.37)

“Welcome Employee Number 1587” starts the description of Innocent Goblin’s WEAREALLONE, a solo RPG about climbing the corporate ladder while struggling against a toxic work environment that exists solely to perpetuate greed and misery. You know, in case you want some escapism.
  • Price: Pay What You Want (Suggested: $3.64)

On Dungeonmasters Guild, Bryan Kirk has a collection of ten unique magic spears, each with a unique identity and new abilities to bring more variety to the historically iconic weapon.
  • Price: Pay What You Want (Suggested: $0.00)

If you want some magic items with a bit of silliness to them, Walker DeVaughn has Morientente Madnd’s Manic Manual of Magic Items. Be warned that these are game-breaking on purpose for the hilarity, but if you like the goofy randomness of chaotic magic items, this 9-page collection is for you.
  • Price: Free

Gryphon Games also wants to add some more magic to your games with Signature Spellbook, a collection of new spells including a chaotic reaction spell, a healing spell specifically for warforged, and more.
  • Price: Pay What You Want (Suggested: $0.50)

Of course, there’s more to D&D than just the magic and Nedrapter looks to add some versatility to mundane weapons with Brutality Weapons. This supplement adds new critical effects for all existing weapons, all-new weapons, new weapon properties, and spellcasting foci effects to make each weapon feel unique and interesting.
  • Price: Pay What You Want (Suggested: $5.00)

It’s the season for holiday one-shots, and Gabriel Sanchez has The Christmas Countdown that sends the 5th level party on a mission to rescue Santa from an attack and save Christmas!
  • Price: Pay What You Want (Suggested: $2.95)

Okay, one more silly holiday adventure with Weekend at Gerard’s by Penny Blake. The lich Gerard has invited you to a fabYULEous (groan) party where of course something goes wrong, and the group becomes wrapped up in a murder mystery. Works as a stand-alone adventure or as a sequel to Cupcakes of Doom (available for $1.00).
  • Price: Pay What You Want (Suggested: $0.00)

Richard Gubitosi released the 3rd level adventure Vengeance in Graywall for the Eberron campaign setting. After experimenting on the characters during the Last War, the necromancer Cayna Lornath is on the run in Graywall ready to sacrifice the party’s long-lost captain to fuel a ritual to the Grim King and become a powerful undead.
  • Price: Pay What You Want (Suggested: $1.00)

Who doesn’t need a good tavern they can plop into any setting at a moment’s notice? Oguzhan Ozgenc has one for us with Sunset Tavern, a two-story tavern with descriptions, rooms, characters, and plot hooks.
  • Price: Pay What You Want (Suggested: $4.99)

Speaking of good resources when you need a location fast, Josh Huddy released A Maze Without Maps, an mini-game maze encounter that can be dropped into any setting. Race against time to make it out of the maze and rely on memory to navigate the twists and turns and hope you don’t end up back where you started.
  • Price: Pay What You Want (Suggested: $1.00)

Philibert’s Scribbles released Deep Dive: Koalinth, an aquatic goblinoid species that goes back to the early years of Dungeons & Dragons. This 26-page supplement features revised lore, rules to play a koalinth, suggestions on replacing them in Ghosts of Saltmarsh, six organizations and societies, 19 new stat blocks, a new water vehicle, and more.
  • Price: Pay What You Want (Suggested: $2.99)

If you thought that was big for a PWYW title, that’s nothing compared to Esteban Ruquet’s A New Dawn: Renaissance in Faerun which updates the timeline to bring in elements from the Enlightenment. This 96-page sourcebook features an alternate history where the gnomes manage to avert the various apocalypses plaguing Toril and advance understanding of science with 17 kingdoms that make up modern Faerun, new lists of equipment, new factions, updates to the core races with cultural variants, four new subclasses, 52 NPC statblocks, and a lot more.
  • Price: Pay What You Want (Suggested: $9.99)

Heading over to Storytellers Vault, Super Vlad released Curiouser and Curiouser Bargains for Changeling: The Lost 2nd Edition with 25 new Contracts, 12 new Entitlements, and a revamped Token Crafting and Goblin Fruit Farming system.
  • Price: Pay What You Want (Suggested: $4.99)

We’ve got a bunch of map collections once again this week. As always, all of these are either free or pay what you want with the price listed in parentheses.

And we also have several new subclasses available this week. Same thing here, everything’s free or pay-what-you-want with the suggested price listed.

And for the first time, we also have a whole lot of tokens ready for use on virtual tabletops! All of these are from Caeora and available for free.

Okay…those who follow me on social media have already heard me talking about this bundle from Bundle of Holding, but Shadowrun 1e-2e Mega Bundle is literally where I started in tabletop roleplaying. I owned every one of these books and read and re-read them so many times that they almost fell apart (and actually did in the case of my Shadowrun 2nd Edition Core Rulebook). To me, the books included in this bundle are still the gold standard in game writing and worldbuilding for a roleplaying game setting. The bundle includes not just the core rulebooks and the supporting sourcebooks for Shadowrun 1st Edition but also classics like Universal Brotherhood, Harlequin, Corporate Shadowfiles, Shadowbeat, and more. The add-on expands the collection into Shadowrun 2nd Edition with all the core books plus sourcebooks still useful in Shadowrun to this day for history and worldbuilding such as Aztlan, Tir Tairngire, Portfolio of a Dragon: Dunkelzahn’s Secrets, Threats, and a lot more. And seriously, if anyone has any questions about any of the books in this bundle, feel free to ask me in the comments or on social media because I am always ready to talk about some of my favorite game books ever published and have read every one of these cover-to-cover multiple times.
  • Price: $19.95 (80% off) with variable-cost Level-Up option
  • End Date: December 22, 2022
  • Charity: Diana Jones Award Emerging Designer Program (10%)

Over on Humble Bundle, it’s interesting timing with the announcement of Henry Cavill starring and producing in a Warhammer 40,000 TV Series, but this bundle came out before the news broke so you can get the jump on adventures in the Imperium with Warhammer 40K Wrath & Glory. While there are three levels to this bundle, I recommend any new players wanting to check out the system go ahead and get the top level because it’s the only one that includes the Core Rulebook.
  • Price: $1/$10/$18 (90% off at top tier)
  • End Date: January 5, 2023
  • Charity: Children’s Health Ireland (user-defined, default 5%)

R. Talsorian Games and Humble Bundle have The Witcher RPG and More Bundle, and the “and More” title does a disservice to the amazing Castle Falkenstein. I previously said that The Witcher needs no introduction in 2022, but one commenter said it does so the tabletop RPG is based on the same novel dark fantasy novel series by Andrzej Sapkowski that the blockbuster video games from CD Projekt Red and the Netflix live-action series are based on. Set in a world full of dangerous monsters, the only thing more deadly are the Witchers, trained from birth to track down these twisted creatures from fairy tales and folklore and hunt them down. The bundle includes at the top-tier the core rulebook and the supplements A Book of Tales, A Witcher’s Journal, A Tome of Chaos, and Lords & Lands. This bundle also includes the underappreciated masterpiece Castle Falkenstein combining fantasy elements, Victorian aesthetics, and ingenious industrial technology into a game that was steampunk almost before the term “steampunk” even existed.
  • Price: $1/$10/$18 (90% off at top tier)
  • End Date: December 24, 2022
  • Charity: Starlight Children’s Foundation (user-defined, default 5%)

That’s all for this week! If you know of any bundles or sales starting soon, please contact me on the EN World Discord, tag me on Mastodon, or send me a message here on EN World. Thanks. In my defense, the product description doesn't mention Marooned and just calls it "a remastering of a classic Traveller adventure".
It's got 3 close parallels in CT, not one...
Marooned/Marooned Alone - two short adventures using the same theme and world (Pagliacci). Basically procedurals that involve surviving a long overland trek to a port to get off the place. Marooned is for GM'd group, Marooned Alone is for GMd single player, and lacks certain elements...
Across the Bright Face - Different cause (PCs on public transit between cities attaced by terrorists), but almost identical play mode. Very different terrain.

Two more procedural hex-slogs come to mind:
Mission on Mithril - another hex-slog procedural, but different theme (resource survey).
Nomads of the World Ocean - another hex-slog, this time on a panthallasic world.

One might say its one of the core adventure types in Classic Traveller.
