Well, that was fun

This week's collection of news headlines from around the RPG community includes musings on the effect of proposed piracy legislation on the RPG community, the release of the new Mistborn Adventure Game, the release date of the Call of Cthulhu iPhone game, a roundup of the newest of the infinite number of Kickstarter projects, and a couple of updates about RPG mobile apps.

If you thought a tarrasque was bad news, there is a far more dangerous entity coming that could wreak havoc on our online gaming community – and it’s coming from Washington DC! Check out Neuroglyph's article, SOPA: Bane of the D&D Blogger?

You might remember me mentioning it before as an upcoming release; but now the Mistborn Adventure Game from Crafty Games is an actual release. It's an RPG based on Brandon Sanderson's novel series, and it's available in digital and print bundles at the official website. You can also check out a free preview and a free primer to get players started (both PDF format).

The folks at Necromancers Online have their usual weekly collection of articles. This week's Grave Plots focuses on the two different kinds of wizard, the gandalf and the merlin, and what that means for wizard characters (PC or NPC) in your game; and Designer Alex Riggs examines the claims that 3.5/Pathfinder wizards are inherently "game-breaking," and what it is about spellcasters that causes these claims. In addition, this week's From the Workshop features two new magic blades with rich histories: the Blade of Evernight, and Winter's Kiss; and Foursaken Features includes five new magical blades for 4th edition heroes. Included are the blade of kings, brutal defender, cleaving blade, the sword of frigid darkness, and the sword of pure flames. Finally, Agatha Blackmist is a troll with dark and mysterious powers. With a heart blacker than that of the meanest swamp hag, she delights in nothing more than inflicting terrible pain and suffering on innocent victims. At the same time, though, her dark knowledge makes her a source of potentionally valuable information. Will she prove a dangerous ally, or a deadly enemy? Find out in this week's Masters and Minions. Phew! That's a crapload of stuff from one place! Oops - no, I spoke too soon: another arrived just as I was typing this; I think they actually write them faster than I can read the emails about them! Wizard apprentices Elvalia Blackwind and Sharon Dumant have a longstanding rivalry about whose school of magic is better: necromancy or evocation. This petty bickering has finally broken into open spell-slinging in the middle of a crowded marketplace, and the PCs (as well as a number of innocent townsfolk) are caught in the middle. Can they put this feud to rest before anyone gets hurt?

After much chanting and summoning of dark forces, indie developer Red Wasp Design today announced that the stars will be right for the release of Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land on the 30th January 2012. To seal this pact with expectant gamers they have accompanied the date announcement with a slew of never-before released High-Definition images. Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land is a turn-based strategy RPG based around the works of cult horror writer H.P.Lovecraft. The game is set in the midst of the First World War and pits a team of soldiers and investigators against an insidious cult intent on using the slaughter of the Great War to open the doors to an invasion of eldritch horrors. Joining what seems to be the near endless line of Kickstarter projects is LPJ Design with its Free RPG Day NeoExodus Adventure for Pathfinder. Also Kickstarting its way are the Monster Stand-Ins - cardboard minis but printed on credit card plastic for better durability and they are dry erasable. A previous Kickstarter, the DungeonMorph Dice & Cards is now available - a very limited number of extra dice and card decks from the
successful DungeonMorph Kickstarter project are available for purchase
on-line
.

Dungeon Mapp, an iPhone/iPad/Android app has been around a while. Its current cost is $8.99, plus it has a free version. And if you're an iPhone-wielding Pathfinder fan, you can do far worse than to check out PFRPG rd - a comoplete offline reference document for the Pathfinder RPG, fully searchable and indexed. There's a video below:
