RPG Soundbites

Reading Bullgrit's 'Talking a parent into . . .' thread reminded me of an unfinished blog post I had sitting around. Just tidied and posted it as a bunch of 'RPG soundbites':

Here's the first few:

'We’re talking about a bunch of kids getting together to make up stories about fighting dragons and finding treasure.'

'Many top colleges, universities and businesses use roleplaying to train and educate students and staff. I'm not sure I'd want a medical doctor who hadn't practised his role before being let loose on patients.'

'In a world full of war and famine RPGs don't really register. There’s just no scientific evidence they do any harm.'

'After 30 years and millions of games, there’s still no word of a single demon summoning at a game table. If there was going to be one you’d have thought it would’ve happened by now.'

There must be a lot of better, snappier, 'tried that and it worked' RPG soundbites out there? Gimme some more to add to the list and give more players an in :D

Did you miss the threads on bad players and gaming experiences at the table? That's some demon summoning right there. Some of it is truly vile. In fact, forget what I said. No one really needs to submit themselves to such demonic readings. ;)

Here's my soundbite:
"I run a reality puzzle game, a cooperative simulation game hidden behind a screen with the rules treated as a code. Players make attempts, I give the results, or, if attempts aren't covered by the rules, I say yes and add their attempt to the code and continue. It's just like a huge situational puzzle, but with the predetermined pattern defining the scopes of the roles offered."
