Now that's laughably wrong! Next time you're at an amusement park or getting your driver's license, look around. You'll conclude that nobody is doing the diet-and-exercise thing!

try joining a health club, even tho they are everywhere, you will easily spend more time standing in line for a mchine than using one, go to a local fitness run or walk, at the last 10k i was at it was a 5 minute wait to run for enuf people to clear the start line...just cause obesity is rampant doesn't mean we aren't at the height of a fitness craze...

I actually don't have any tattoos, however, I have been wanting one for a long time. The two things that I would love to have would be Wonder Woman or the symbol of Eilistraee.

It's funny because when I was trying to decide what to be while making up the character that I currently play, I flipped through the Forgotten Realms PH and was very impressed with the artwork. The pic that really caught my eye was the holy symbol of Eilistraee. I read what her Dogma was & thought that I would really enjoy playing a cleric of Eilistraee. Now, my character is 13th level & she is by far my favorite.

This is what the pic actually looks like, for those who haven't seen it.

The only thing that's really holding me back is trying to decide where I would put it. Besides money, it's the only thing that's ever really held me back on getting a tattoo.

i have heard the "everyone does it" thing as a reason not to a lot, and it bothers me.

not to mention, everyone seems to be doing the diet, exercise and weightlifting thing.

Well, of course we are. America is fat.

I'm sure there's a "health craze" but I'm not part of it. Heart disease, diabetes, and general "You're fat, you die" run in both sides of my family. I'm a genetic time bomb, and I know it. I'm sort of fond of the whole living thing, so I'm doing something about it while I'm still young enough to change things.

I wouldn't do it just because it's popular. More along the lines of survival instinct and the drive to mate and pass on my damaged genetic code.

Same with tats. They SHOULD be something personal, a reflection of who you are. But, like anything, it is also a cue to others and yourself about where you belong in your own mind and theirs. Well, it's gone from something "other" to something "mainstream" ... the outward meaning of tattoos has changed, the inward meaning FOR tattoos has changed for many people. With anything we do within society, the outward symbolism of a tattoo is something that gets taken into account (I'm part of the this group, I like this game, I know these people).

So I've just been taking into account my own feelings and the impression tattoos in general give to people. My own feelings run along the lines of: "Well, I'm not a trend follower, and my like of this or that tattoo doesn't over-ride the fact that I've seen six other people with a design just like it, and if I'm being true to myself, I don't want something inked into me that isn't original because then it isn't -me-."

Everybody ties their shoes, everybody brushes their teeth ... but everybody doesn't have to wear the same brand of clothes, or get their hair cut the same way, or talk with the same accent, or enjoy the same movies, or listen to the same music. If tats weren't a symbolic act that created a "structure" we wouldn't be on here talking about who has RPG related tattoos, who has this or that kind of tattoo ...

:) I'm not against them, mind you, I'm just stating my position. There's one I want, for a purely personal reason. My reason for not wanting to align myself with a particular group is also perfectly reasonable.

Oh, and thanks. :) The sig is a long story.

My point wasn't that literally nobody is in shape -- my circle of friends and family is in shape -- but that a healthy lifestyle, eating right and working out, is hardly popular.

Hey Josh, I really like the nouveau-chic picture in your sig line. It's a change for the better IMO!!

In answer to your question, alsih2o is the chemical compound commonly used to denote clay, and Clay is alsih2o's real name.

For the longest time, I didn't recognize it as a chemical formula, because it was all in lower-case. Even once I recognized "H20" (I wish I had subscript), I didn't recognize "AlSi".

<on-topic> Brands are fer livestock.

<off-topic> Re: cool sig.
Hey, cool sig, Alsih2o. But....isn't the clay chemical formula more like: AlSiOH?:p

I mean, are we talkin' kaolinite, here? Illite? Maybe Vermiculite? 'Course, perhaps yer stuck on Smectite...... (pronounce that carefully, all you non-geologists.....)

A friend of mine has a ~8 in. tall Lord Soth standing in blood on his outter shoulder. A very good rendition, he's in the classic arms folded position.
