RPG Trek for Android

LostMystic

First Post
I'm cross posting this on a few sites to build awareness, but more importantly to get feedback.

I've just put out an app call "RPG Trek" for android. The purpose of which is to make the whole travel part of fantasy role playing games more fun. (Some DM's are great, but I've more often seen this part drag.)

The app costs a few dollars. And I already think it's worth more than that to those who need it. I still think it can be improved a lot.

So from you guys, I just need to know hang-ups (boring moments) you have when doing in game traveling. So if this just becomes a thread about how to spice up travel, great! If you did download RPG Trek, also great! But tell me what kind of features you'd like to see. I have version 1.1 in the works, and I'd love a big thick list wishlist for 1.2 and beyond.

Thanks guys!

I don't suppose you have plans for an iPad version?

Besides weather and combat encounters, I'd like to be able to generate "sights & scenes" and locations that might be worthy of investigation.

SIGHTS AND SCENES
- Vultures flying over a spot nearby (indicating something dead or dying worth investigating)
- A testy bull grazing in the middle of the road
- A gibbet hanging from a nearby tree with a prisoner in it (alive or dead)
- A traveling merchant's wagon bursting with items for sale
- A peasant desperate to sell the family cow/pig/chickens for a few coin to feed his family (or so he says)
- A road patrol who stops the characters and questions them on their motives and destination
- A messenger who warns the characters to clear the road and let him pass
- A pack of pilgrims on their way to a holy location
- A riddling sphinx who won't eat a party member if they solve it's riddle

LOCATIONS
- An abandoned farmstead whose crops have wilted
- A small, out-of-the-way traveler's inn
- An abandoned watch tower or keep
- A holy roadside shrine and it's attendant monk
- A bridge over a ford (and it's attendant troll)
- An abandoned site of battle where rusted armor and weapons still are visible
- A dark cave whose entrance is obscured by brush
- An abandoned mineshaft
- A guarded drinking pool
- A nomad tent-city or gypsy encampment
- A ghost town

iPad version = Yes. I wanted to see demand from this one first. I'm desperately hoping I can get over 500 downloads to at least make up the cost of the software. But even if it does 100 or so I'll be considering the iPad version. The good news is the code is easy to port over.

Sights, Scenes and locations.

Hrm, thats an interesting idea. Originally I just intended to fill out more detail for the encounters, but having more flavor to the flavor text may work too.

I've had mixed feedback on content. Some really want more depth, others caution against too much to take away from the DM's planned adventure and game. I'd like travel to be more fun, but I definitely don't want to hijack the DM's game.

I think I'm going to add an option menu for the next version. I have some cleanup so it will be very limited at first, but having the option to turn on more detail, well I like that a lot. That will be the door to more flavor like sights, scenes and locations.

Your ideas have been noted, and thank you very much!

If you think of anything more I'm all ears. :-)

"I wanted to see demand from this one first."

Sorry I have to. Even if demand is low, I'll still be working on it. It has to be longer for updates though. This is my job, how I earn my instant noodles, it's also my hobby. I really do want to make this something people will find useful.
