RPGUnited.com - The Worlds biggest RPG product archive is online again!

RPGUnited

First Post
The worlds largest RPG product archive has started to up again. Last seen alive in 2004.

We did find someone that took over the RPG United site back in 2004.
But they never did any updates on it, and after a very short time the whole site went offline.

So, after beeing involved in a number of non-rpg related stuff in the past years, we came over the rpgunited.com domain as beeing free, and after looking through some boxes in the attic discovered some backups of the site just when we gave it away in 2004.

So we got the domain name back, and have just completed uploading the whole site as it was in 2004.
It seems that the search engine has stopped working, and there are a few broken external links, but other than that the archive it self seems intact.
The sad thing though, is that the database generating all this stuff is gone, so we cannot regenerate the site, or make any automated updates at the moment.
I think it will be possible to reverse-engineer the whole site into a database and rebuild the whole thing so we once again can update the archive and extend it even more.
This will, however, be a considerably task, and not one I'm ready to undertake unless I know that it will be appreciated by many.

There is already 11.000 pages filled with info of products from the very beginning, authors, artists, reviews etc ..

So, if you would like to see RPG United restored to its full former glory, please write an email to Johnny at rpgunited.com and let us know :)

If there is good response from the RPG fans, we will also need a little help with lists of what has been released in the meanwhile, as we can fill the gap between 2004 and 2012. Take a look, there is loads to see. :)

Good to see that the best RPG site is still alive and strong.

We have a few thousand hours of work ahead of us to maintain the site, and any help on giving us info and lists we are missing from 2004 to 2012 is very much appreciated.
We also need to get updated on what has been going on in the RPG scene the last years .. =)

If we get alot of interest on keeping our site active, and that people really want to use such a site, we will to the hard work on updating it. If it hasn't been missed then it would be a waste of time. Is the D20 producers up and running still?

Strange. Two different browsers on two different machines and still can't reach the site. How long has it been back up? Maybe the propagation of the site hasn't cleared through to my neck of the woods just yet.

(I just got your email, too. Nice to know I am still in your system :) )

The site has been up since 8th of december, so it should work fine by now. I sent out the e-mail to see who is still active .. and i think that half of my contacts i got in return, so alot of smaller RPG companies must have gone down during the last few years?

Yes, our reviewers was really busy, and i think we got almost 1000 books in just 3 years. And it was always very fun to see phrases of your reviews on the back page of new products.

When each reviewer had 30-50 books in their queue for reviewing, that was when everything started to fall apart. Nobody had the time to play anymore.

So is Pathfinder the new big thing? D20 has faded? i'm trying to get updated on what has happened the last 8 years. :)

We also had some old MERP products from Iron Crown listed on our site, and got a nasty letter from a Tolkien lawyer. If we didn't remove them all hell would break loose. So that didn't help either to keep the site online.
