This is a good thing to see go. If the rule was in play, (not that it was in any game I ever played) so many wondrous items would sit on the shelf. Would you sacrifice you're 1 daily magic item for something like map of unseen lands? Sure you get all kinds of benefits for wandering around looking for stuff but you're sword of baddassery has to wait. Oh I said the map because it works by spending 1 daily a day, every day, just to keep the map up to date.
