Rules about sleeping

Ummm... Elves can talk and play cards and the like during their 4 hours of rest, just not anything that requires a lot of work, IE getting firewood ect., it's the same as spellcasters during reasearching of a spell while they aren't doing the research

But that interpretation is not RAW. In the RAW, conversation is too mentally taxing.

Maybe you don't think it makes sense (I'm not sure I do, either), but I like the balance it provides. :\
 

The closest we've found to no/inadequate sleep rules is this:

The forced march rules. Basically if you keep going for more than 8 hours, you need to make fort saves or become fatigued. It takes 8 hours of sleep to remove that state.

So - if you don't keep at it for more than 8 hours at a time, then you can afford to have your sleep interrupted.

Personally I might introduce the DM's friend to those saves if the PC's keep skimping.

Personally I don't think that having the PC's become less and less effective due to sleep deprivation adds anything to the game, so I'm not interested in adjudicating anything but the most extreme situations.
