I must admit that I do not own the Manual of the Planes, although I have perused a copy. I've got a group that's about to enter the Abyss, and wish to clarify a few rules points.
In 1e/2e, there were extensive changes to magical items and spells when one passed onto the Outer Planes. Specifically, enhancement items created on the Prime would lose 2 "pluses" (and any additional special abilities if that deduction dropped the item to +0). Spells, particularly divination and conjuration magic, experienced dramatic changes (my sources for this include the 1e module Q1 and the FR module "For Duty & Diety", which I got as a free ESD from WotC).
From my admittedly brief reading of MotP, and in particular the sections on the Abyss, it seems as though these restrictions have been dropped in 3e. Some layers have some specific effects (and the book leaves other changes open for the DM, it seems). Is this correct, or was there something that I missed? Can someone from the Prime walk the Abyss with most of his/her items and spells functioning normally?
Thanks in advance for any clarification that you may offer.
