D&D 4E Rules Compendium and 4e Layout

I was looking at the previews/excerpts from the Rules Compendium and while I'm trying to resist the urge to buy it I was impressed with the clarity of the page layout.

I seem to remember someone at WotC saying something about them going for a more magazine-like layout for 4e and whilst I wonder how this might affect page count, I couldn't help but wonder how much the layout in the Rules Compendium might reflect what we might expect in 4e...

While its not bad, it certainly is boring and minimalistic. I do like the the header font though (romic light if anyone is curious).

They'll definitely be able to get a lot more on the page, which is a good thing. That just makes me realize how much info is going to be packed into the 4e PHB and that makes me happy.

I'd bet that the layout is pretty telling of what we'll see in 4e. We'll most likely see some kind of watermarks on the page like Ebberon as I just can't imagine them leaving it so bland looking.

Its all in the content though. If it looks boring, but is crammed full of rules and awesome artwork, I won't complain.

The RC design is nice and slick (and I don't mind "empty" - I liked the books of Malhavoc Press very much, esp. CBoEM). However, it's not exactly magazine-style. For that, they need a lot more design elements, more pronounced headers... and quotes, that split the pages up.

Cheers, LT.
