I think it's almost exclusively reprints from WotC and the mags. The stuff from the PHB is what really leaves me nonplussed. I've already got four of them!

Many of the current releases are chock full of recycled art. Grand History of the Realms being an excellent example. And before you start saying that it would make sense that a giant timeline would feature the art reflected from the history of 3.0/3.5e Forgotten Realms releases, I would add that some of the art has absolutely nothing to do with Forgotten Realms.

One example is a piece of art I immediately recognized from Oriental Adventures (2001) of the Void Disciple PrC (OA, p. 52), a concept originally adapted from AEG's Legend of the Five Rings. Not that this sort of thing bothers me personally, but there's really only one reason for it: The majority of the new art (and the money set aside for new art) is budgeted for 4e.

EDIT: I should really have taken a look at the Rules Compendium art gallery before writing this post. Apparently that same piece of art (by Matt Cavotta) from Oriental Adventures that made its way into Grand History of the Realms also appears in the Rules Compendium!

[IMaGel]http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/RulesComp_Gallery/110987.jpg[/IMaGel]Well, sometime the reprinting can authortate something that was unclear. Just for an example, the text of the PHB and it's example on lines did not say the same thing, that means the Text trumps the Example. If ONLY the example is in the RC, then it's presence in the Rules compedium trumps the PHB's Text.

PHB text: "A line-shaped spell affects all creatures in squares that the line passes through."
PHB Example's text: "All squares through which the line passes or touches are affected by the attack."

Good point, but I don't believe most folks are thinking of descriptive diagrams when they mention the recycling of interior art.

I'll be grad to see the Dragon covers without the cover text and blurbs.

That's one thing I like about the new digital mags. Full size art without text covering it up.

A medusa mounted on a gorgon. That's scary. Petrifying, even.
