Rules Database vs. Core Rulebooks

Not meaning to sound pessimistic here or anything, but if any of my friends that have had babies arrive are any indication, and assuming this is your first baby, I'd be very surprised if you find you have the free time to even do that ;) at least for the first six months or so.

Not to say it isn't worth it, of course it is, and more.
Yeah, I fully anticipate that. I guess my rationale was that the more DM-friendly 4e system and online tools would at least give me a fighting chance. ;)

v3.5 is sooo much work for a DM that I'm pretty much assuming that it's not going to happen.

When my son was born I stopped gaming all together for the first 3 months. Nothing anyone can say can prepare you for the first 3 months of caring for a baby. Then I gradually started gaming a bit. Even now, 2+ years later I have not had time to game every week. I am going to try weekly gaming again starting next month.

Luckily, my friends always have a weekly game set up and I am free to join in whenever I can.

It varies a lot from person to person. We play every Wednesday evening, and when my baby girl came, there was only 2 or 3 Wednesdays we had to cancel, mostly because my wife's hip got dislocated during the birth. Else I find it is a matter of organization. If you want to play, you can make it happen by making sure everything else is in order in advance. Of course things can happen, but in reality (and now I am assuming a normal baby) there are very little things that one person (in this case the missus) can't do for a baby on their own.

To the OP: If money isn't the issue, I will reverse my stance and say: Go 4e. While I can't promise you anything, I am 99% sure that 4e is going to save you huge amounts of time, especially if you invest in the DDI (since it includes dungeon adventures).

Cheers
