Rules for Touching Someone's Gear?

Not to threadjack, but I have a related question: what would be involved in a character slipping a Helm of Opposite Alignment or similar item onto another creature? How about if they were hidden or invisible?

There are just so many inappropriate responses to this thread title that I don't know which one to pick!

More on topic, the user's touch AC modified by the size of the item sounds ok (assuming that it is easy to remove from that person once you have hold of it). I'm sure I read some rules somewhere that dealt with this issue more specifically though. Let's see if I can remember where.

The obvious answer would be to use the Disarm rules, since they're used for grabbing an opponent's item. Provoke an AoO, then make opposed attack rolls.

To Thurbane's question about forcibly equipping an item on a character, I'd say that you would have to have the item in hand and then succeed at a Grapple check against that character while either you or an ally have him Pinned. Modify the check by how well the item must be secured, using the same modifiers as for grabbing an item under the Disarm rules.

Exactly!

I know the rules are out there because I remember reading them at some point. I think it was in the DMG but I can't remember where and, IIRC, it wasn't obviously noted with a header or listing in the index.
