Rumor? D&D movie issues resolved and a TV series in the works?

Is the Forgotten Realms not supposed to be connected to our World, at least tenuously, such that people from Earth have crossed over into the Forgotten Realms before? Imagine the main character of a series is an intrepid reporter who literally chases a story down a hole and gets transported to the Realms. That character, a woman to my mind, becomes the motivator behind a band of adventurers whom she manages to hire to be her muscle for getting the "stories" of this new world. Her character would be the one with the acute sense of wonder, and once word started getting around perhaps dark forces started to make plans for her. Whether such plans would be pure "removal" or co-option (or both) is not set for me, but it could perhaps serve as a great allegory for the danger for journalists in war-torn and authoritarian countries. This way you get an interesting setting, a protagonist with a clear purpose, and something to say about the real world.
