RUMOR! SW Galaxies to use d20 engine

That stirred up a dim memory. I believe I read that same article, or at least something similar.

Either way I'm intending on giving it a whirl. I just can't get back 'into' any of the on-line games I've subscribed to in the past, and I'm looking forward to a change of pace with a Sci-Fi based game instead of yet another "Go Kill Orcs" experience. That it's Star Wars doesn't hurt any either.

I read the same article.....can't remember the mag though. I read it at Barnes & Noble along with a bunch of other magazines while wating for my wife to pick out a romance novel (shudder)

That would seem to go against almost everything known about Star Wars Galaxies so far.

I doubt it. (Though I wish it were going to be d20...)

I strongly doubt this is actually the case. It takes a long time to write a computer game, and I suspect the revisions in the SWRCRB would not have been so extensive if there was any chance Galaxies was going to use a d20 engine based on the old rules.

Star Wars Galaxies is a skills-based system. There are definitely no "classes" in the game, ala Soldier, Fringer, Jedi Guardian, etc, there are no character levels, and the way that health is handled is very different from the d20 rules, just to name a few big differences.

There was talk that the upcoming Bioware Star Wars RPG, Knights of the Old Republic, would be based on Star Wars d20. This rumor may be confusing Galaxies with KOTOR.

That would make sense seeing how Bioware's other games all used AD&D 2E or D20.

That's not quite true...

While the Baldur's Gate series and Neverwinter Nights do use 2e and d20 rules, Bioware also has several games which do not, including MDK 2 and Shattered Steel.
