Run?

The Run feat allows you to move 3x/4x your speed as a full round action. There is another feat in a WotC book (Complete Adventurer?) that allows you to make a single 90 degree turn during your run, whereas you'd otherwise be restricted to running in a straight line.

Do you think a third feat would be overpowered in allowing multiple turns during the run? Maybe even unlimited? You'd be burning three feats on running...

Presumably you mean the run feat lets you go at 4x/5x your speed (4x in heavy or medium armour, 5x in light or no armour).

I'd have no problem with unlimited turning as a part of a run as the third feat in a running chain. That said, I don't think I've ever seen anyone take Run, or the Complete Adventurer feat.

Seconded. Running is a full round action, so the potential for abusing this is practically non-existant (unless you're a Choker), and spending three feats is a major investment. Changing shape into something with a faster ground speed is a much better option, IMO. I might even be convinced to house-rule the CA feat to allow unlimited turning.

Such a feat could be very nice for RP purposes, though.

If you feel run is weak try this variant:

You can always run, even under statuses or conditions that would not allow you to run normally. Gives the feat a little more kick.

But yeah, I think 3 feats for unlimited turning would be pretty weak actually. I think the 2 feats alone would be fine.

Isn't there a feat that allows a turn while charging? If you instead alter that second feat to be a single 90 degree turn (or less of a turn) while running or charging, I think that would be enough of an improvement to actually make it useful.

Actually, you run at x3 in heavy armor or carrying a heavy load and x4 otherwise (no armor, light armor, medium armor, light load, medium load). With the Run feat this increases to x4 in heavy armor or carrying a heavy load; x5 otherwise. Medium armor does not decrease the multiplier for run speed, just the hustle speed from which run speed is determined.

You know, we've never noticed that line that says that running has to be done in a straight line - and there is no way we'd do it now. I'd definitely recommend just allowing people to run round corners like, you know, in real life.

Charge still has to be a straight line, sure - but forcing run to happen in a straight line (literally) means you've got lots of circumstances when you can't actually run at all!

Feats to allow you to take a turn during a run are woefully underpowered as feats, I can't imagine why a player would take one out of his 7 or so total feats! If there was going to be a feat that allowed running round corners, you ought to have a single feat that lets you make as many corners as you want.

Just my 2cp.

I've always thought the "in a straight line" bit was lame too. I would house-rule something to the effect of using more movement to make turns - maybe 10ft for a diagonal, 20ft for a right hand turn. That more accurately captures the slow downs needed, but allows players to run whereever, just like IRL.
