Give the rogue or monk a rune of Silence and let them run to the enemy mage and watch the fun ensue.
As opposed to simply casting silence on the rogue from a scroll?

As for spells like righteous might, sure, it sounds good. But is one casting of righteous might worth 1125 gp and 90 XP? Really? And that's assuming you make the DC25 Craft check. (BTW, Player's Guide to Faerun and errata specify 50 gp x SL x CL for runes -- half that to inscribe -- and call it a standard action to trigger.)

No, the real utility in Forgotten Realms runes -- and there is some, at the lowered cost -- is in lower level utility spells ... spells you want your entire group to have easy access to. Spells like lesser restoration and cure X wounds. It's also true that the runecaster prestige class is very nice, and that opens up more rune uses.

It's always interesting to maximize the number of buffs that can go off in a single round. Give the rogue a rune of silence, the fighter a rune of enlarge person, and both of them are up in the surprise round, along with your own divine power and the mage's haste.

"SILENCICO NOISEUS INTERDICTUS COMMANDOMINUS!" *shhh*

vs.

"..." *shhh*

Yeah, I can see some runic advantage here. Not much over a potion, but you can't make a potion of that. :)

Not only that, I forgot the very first ability the PrC grants: half price runes! It's not explicitly stated, but the description in the entry for Inscribe Rune feat (which is the same as that in the Rune Magic entry in the magic chapter) is Spell level X Caster level X 100gp, but the entry for single use runes in the Runecaster PrC table lists the cost as Spell level X Caster level X 50gp. It just gets better from there.

I don't have the book handy, but I'm pretty sure that the rune magic chapter is giving market price, and the Runecaster chart is giving cost to create.
