Which campaign setting? Faerun, Greyhawk, Scarred Lands, Hell, Ravenloft, the Abyss???
remember gods dont intervene with evil PCs anymore than good PCs.
I usually run my one-shots in Greyhawk, but I could run it in Faerun or the Scarred Lands, or one of the outer planes. I don't have my Ravenloft stuff anymore. Since it's a one-shot, I really don't care which campaign world it is...
Thanks for the feedback so far. You've all given me lots of ideas.
I definitely want to give them some motivation to work together throughout the adventure, and then give them some motivation to kill each other at the end. But I want it to be something they decide to do, rather than railroading them too much. (However, since it's a one-shot, I recognize the need for a bit of railroading.)
I think an order of paladins as one of the main "villains" is certainly in order, and it gives me a chance to playtest some Call of Duty material they haven't seen yet.
Funny that you mentioned psions, Mustrum, one of the players is playing a mindflayer/psion. Should be quite interesting. Another is thinking of playing a minotaur samurai. Haven't heard from the others yet. No one knows what everybody else is playing until the night of the game.
Takyris, you've given me the idea to run this a bit like a serious Paranoia game. I'm thinking of giving cards to each player at the beginning with instructions above and beyond what I give the group. I think the group will all belong to the same secret society and be assigned on some sort of mission against the paladins. Perhaps stealing an
unholy artifact that the paladins are trying to destroy. The artifact itself could be a problem, as it tries to charm the PCs and use them against each other.
Other than an order of paladins, I'm thinking of running a higher level version of their own PCs against them in the final fight. The sound of their jaws smacking the table when I pull out their regular miniatures and start mocking their role-playing should be satisfying.
