Running Dwarves

A dwarf has a base speed of 20', and keeps that speed even in heavy armor.

When a dwarf in full plate takes the Run action, does he move 60' or 80'?
What if he has the Run feat?

The dwarf entry for their landspeed makes no mention of not reducing the run multiplier, so it drops to x3 as normal for a dwarf in heavy armor. Only their base speed remains unchanged.

My mantra. "Don't assume the rules say something they do not."

Dwarf base land speed is 20 feet. However, dwarves can move at this speed even when wearing medium or heavy armor or when carrying a medium or heavy load (unlike other creatures, whose speed is reduced in such situations).

Encumbrance by Armor: A character’s armor defines his or her maximum Dexterity bonus to AC, armor check penalty, speed, and running speed. Unless your character is weak or carrying a lot of gear, that’s all you need to know. The extra gear your character carries won’t slow him or her down any more than the armor already does.
...the character’s speed, and affects how fast the character can run...
It would appear that speed and running speed are two seperate things.

crazy running dwarves, they arent supposed to run!! maybe jog, but never sweat, never let them see you sweat.

Anyway though, looks like x3 to me as well. Although it would be a tough call in a game if I was dm, I think that the dwarf in fullplate outrunning the human is just too cool of a visual ;)

For added humor *and* efficacy, take the Rokugan Ninja core class as a Dwarf.

At level 8, you get your CON Mod. added to your Move rate in 5' increments. Meaning your 18 CON would give you +20' added to your base Move rate (due to +4 Mod.).

Now, since a Dwarf has a ton of CON, his movement rate can get crazy-high at higher levels and with CON boosting spell buffs or magic items.

Take the Spring Attack feat chain to take advantage of his great speed, and you end up with a high CON, extremely robust Dwarf (high HP), with lightning-like speed, and a hard 1-hit Spring Attack punch (with Sneak Attack kicking in).

XO,
Snow :)
