Rurouni Kenshin TV and OVA's

So... who else really likes this anime? Within the past few months I saw this anime, now it is my favorite. I'm a huge anime fan and own a ton, but i guess its cause i've always loved watching a good sword fight. The TV series is great (well for the first two arcs) and the first OVA's are probably the best out of all of Kenshin. Just checking to see if there are any other huge Kenshin fans out there...

I've been buying the original manga since I got here (Japan), having watched the anime (TV series only) back in America.

I like the manga better than the anime for a few reasons. The anime has quite a few filler episodes. While this is understandable, I find that the works based on the actual manga are much better than those that were made up just to add time to the series, such as the mini-arc with Kenshin and those pirates led by a woman. Another reason is that the TV series has some minor editing of things from the manga (in the manga, we get to see Hanya's face, for example).

Probably my main reason for my opinion that the manga is better though is that, as far as I understand it (not having seen all of the TV series), the anime never deals with Enishi and his gang coming to get revenge on Kenshin for Kaoru's death, which is an incredible plotline in the manga. The TV series instead ends with the "Christian saga" which while good (from what I hear), isn't the same as the highly personal vendetta that Enishi carries.

All in all though, the series is quite good, and I enjoy it a lot, though its not my single most favorite anime.

Yeah, I hear that the manga is a ton better than the Anime, but that is only for the reason that is the Enishi Arc. While the Christian Arc is good, somewhat decent, i hope that they plan on releasing the Enishi Arc in the future, anime style of course , I hear its possible from all of the people making petitions. Although Enishi is mentioned in the 2nd OVA, the one dealing with (SPOILER) a fatal disease (END SPOILER) , i feel that a way more in depth entire arc would be a lot better than a 60 min movie (soon to be released on dvd here in the U.S.).

Hopefully they settle these liscence problems for the Kenshin Manga being released in the U.S. cause when that happens I'll be sure to buy every book.

Kenshin is one of my favorite anime series of all, and definitely the best action anime (except possibly for Ninja Scroll) I've ever seen. Sure, Dragonball Z has some good fight scenes, but they're not as smartly choreographed as the best of Rurouni Kenshin.

My favorite anime episode EVER is the fight between Kenshin and Cho the Sword Hunter. It was just so fantastic. Kenshin's sword has been shattered, leaving him at a fraction of his full strength. But of course, he doesn't hesitate to charge to the defense of the swordsmith's infant son. Using just his scabbard, Kenshin manages to knock down Cho and shatter a couple of his swords, but it's not enough to stop him. When the swordsmith throws Kenshin a sword, Kenshin still hesitates to draw his weapon, because he knows that if he does, Cho will be killed and Kenshin's oath to never kill again will be lost, along with his redemption. But Cho forces his hand, and Kenshin makes his choice. Even if it costs him his soul, Kenshin can't stand by while an innocent child is murdered. I must have watched that episode like a dozen times.

And the OVA prequel is also amazing. It complements the series so well, with its darker, more somber tone, reflecting Kenshin's earlier life. I really love the soundtrack, it's one of my favorite CDs of all.

Yeah, I like Kenshin.

I'm glad to see that there are such good Kenshin fans on the forums. Cho is an awesome character, but i always liked the Jinnei and Aoshi fights, as well as my favorite tenken's fight with Kenshin. I like anime better than manga, i'd rather watch something than read it.

Yeah........those OVA's are good...

Rurouni Kenshin (titled "Samurai X" here in Brazil) is an amazing anime, and I very much like the first two story arcs. The Christian stuff I wasn't too keen on. And Yahiko is just a perfect Japanese halfling. But my favorite character is Sanosuke, simply cause he kicks ass!

I'm a big fan of villains, plain and simple, and Rurouni Kenshin has some of the best of those. Jinei is a $#%&ing badass! He's so evil, and revels in that, that its scary. I wish he had gotten more screentime.

Edging out over him though is definately Makoto Shishio. I've only read the manga of his arc, but still...he is one of the greatest villains I've ever seen. His character is fully detailed, and completely three-dimensional. I don't want to say anything more, since it could be considered spoilers for people who haven't seen the series, but man oh man...he is the bomb.

I like a lot of other anime, of all sorts of genres. One of my most favorites though, perhaps my most favorite period, is Dragonball Z. I know people will run to the fore to dis it, which is sad, because its an incredible epic saga (and the villains are freaking awesome too)!
