Sadistic glass-themed spells

I came up with these spells for a modified, PC-friendlly glassmage PrC based off of the Vineshe Glassblower (thanks for the link, Corbert!)

Glazer's Lesser Glass Orb
Conjuration (Creation)
Level: Sor/Wiz 1
Components: V, S, M
Time: 1 Standard Action
Range: Close (25 +5/2 levels)
Effect: one Glass Orb
Duration: Instantaneous
Save: None
SR: No

An orb of glass 2 inches across shoots from your palm at it's target, dealing 1d8 points Bludeoning, Piercing, and Slashing damage when it smashes into the target and explodes. You must succeed on a ranged touch attack to hit your target. It is treated as being magic for overcoming Damage Reduction.

For every two caster levels beyond first, your orb deals an additional 1d8 points of damage, Max 5d8.

Material: A small glass marble.

Glazer's Glass Orb
Conjuration (Creation)
Level: Sor/Wiz 4
Components: V, S, M
Time: 1 Standard Action
Range: Close (25 +5/2 levels)
Effect: one Glass Orb
Duration: Instantaneous
Save: Fortitude partial

On a failed fortitude save, the target takes 1 point of Con damage as shards of glass lacerate his skin, causing profuse bleeding. This damage is not doubled on a successful critical.

For everycaster level beyond first, your orb deals an additional 1d8 points of damage, max 15d8

Material: A small glass marble with a small bit of a razor embedded in it.

Glazer's Glass Orb

Wow, that's a strong spell. I don't know that it's too powerful, since it's single-target, but it sure isn't weak. 1d8/level (max 15d8) that can't be avoided easily (no save, SR, or energy type, and all damage types), plus a point of Con unless you save.

It might just be better as 5th level, perhaps also 1d6/level (max 20d6) for scaling, just because it's so hard to avoid.

Well, I modeled after the other Orb spells, and those ARE generally considered very powerful... - Do remember, though, the secondary effect can fail too...

Other than increasing the level, are there any other suggestions?

Yeah -- don't do that! The various Orb spells are too strong. They're broken. They're not allowed in most campaigns -- well, in many campaigns, most may be too strong.

Anyway. Base spells off the effects in the Core rules and you'll be golden. :)

Cheers, -- N

Yeah, I agree, but is there a way I can de-über all the spells while keeping them Conjuration? Maybe alowing SR...

I seem to remeber hearing that the ones in CA aren't broken, while the ones in SC are...

Any more help?

cheers,
Siberys
