Saga Cleave…

I'm sure this has already been covered, but I just was curious about one line in the Cleave feat description where it says you may not make a 1 square adjustment before making your Cleave attack.

Am I to believe that Saga originally had a 1 square adjustment (5 ft. step) rule, but was scraped at the last minute?

Yes. That was covered in some article by wotc. Might have been some of the jedi counceling articles. It was dumped during the proces but that line got past the proof-readers.

Right on, I figured it was something along those lines.

Can you tell me why they ditched it?

Probably because it was easily abusable under D&D3.5/RCR (personal conjecture).

Also because the Withdraw action provides much the same benefit and helps keep combat mobile. Not to mention the decreased emphasis on multiple attacks.

Totally.

For what it's worth, I'm glad they scraped it, and I'm pretty sure 4th edition will ditch it too.

The 5ft step? Probably because if you want to do something to avoid an AoO you can do withdraw as a move action now.

Given that DDM lacks the 5 ft. step too, I think it's a safe bet 4e won't have the 5 ft. adjustment.

I like it. Keeps melee relevant.

I also have a strong feeling that alignment will go bye bye as a mechanical aspect of the game (detect evil etc).
