Sage Advice: How much does the D&D Insider subscription cost?

First Post
I saw this in the latest Sage Advice Column dated 1/4/2008

"Q: How much does the D&D Insider subscription cost?

A: Again, another year-end reminder as we find this question still coming in to us quite often. As stated on 09/05: A final monthly subscription price has not yet been announced (though the editorial portion, Dragon and Dungeon Magazines, are currently within their free preview). At Gen Con, we did state that the price would fall somewhere between the cost of a single print issue of Dragon Magazine and the monthly fee of a MMORPG (in other words, between $10 and $15).

With this subscription, users will have access to both online Dragon and Dungeon Magazines, as well as the online suite of tools (D&D Gaming Table, Character Creator, DM Toolkit, plus the Character and Campaign Vault pages)."

I figured it would be in that range but, it is nice to have some confirmation.

We've been had this confirmation. Basically all they did was remind people or tell people who may have missed it.

I think it is about time they start narrowing that range down some.

They forgot to include an (*)

(*) The price is subject to change without notice. Offer void where prohibited. The price does not include the cost of 3D miniatures, terrain, activation fees for physical products purchased, and other related fees.

Here we go again.

You know you don't need insider to play to begin with, right? I mean, they are offering you this optional stuff to BUY. They aren't saying "Here, take it."

If you're refering to the post above you, it's a joke, lighten up. If not, then you're being awfully pessimistic.

Here, I think this is a little more like how it might read:

Use of D&D Insider requires purchase of the Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition Rulebooks. Use of D&D Insider is not required in order to play Dungeons and Dragons, but is highly encouraged in order to make your gaming experience as good as possible. Play on the virtual Game Table requires the use of a human Dungeon Master. Wizards of the Coast does not guarantee a positive gaming experience using the Virtual Game Table as a poor DM is perfectly capable of providing a crappy game regardless of how far away they might live. A computer running the Windows Operating System with a broadband connection is required to use all components of D&D Insider. Macintosh and Linux operating systems will not support use of the Virtual Game Table, Character Creator and DM Toolkit. Computer sold separately. Users of D&D Insider are strongly encouraged to maintain their personal hygeine and get outside in the sunlight and fresh air once in a while.

They can get away with $10. Probably.

$15 a month will probably drive folks away(thats $180 a year BEFORE book ungrades and miniatures) If its higher than that, its no way worth it.

It's funny how significant the difference between $10 and $15 seems. I definitely can't see paying $15 a month and I can't see my whole group paying $15 each either.
