There's no one in this thread who has criticized the talents or repute of Skip Williams!

It didn't have to be stated in this thread. The criticism exhists. All you have to do to see it is post a reply from him regarding a topic where someone disagrees with him, and most of the time (not all, but most), you'll get the same reaction. The disrespect for the man, and the blatant disregard for the failings of a normal human being are so thick you can cut it with a knife.

Post a Sage reply when someone agrees and he's "the man".
Post a Sage reply when someone disagrees and he's incompetent.

The unjustifiably poor attitude towards him, manifested by many, is way to commonplace to ignore. Also, and please understand that this is in no way an inference or an accusation, but many people like to hide their pettiness behind a veil of "it's not official anyway".

Was Ranger REG's comment off topic? Maybe. Was it relevant? In a way, I think it was, but more than anything, I think his comment was just preemptive of the traditional backlash that comes about whenever the Sage is mentioned in a thread.

You have cunningly changed the subject of the thread by acting like the categorization of Skip's comments as "unofficial" is somehow a criticism of him. It's not, and I continue to be amazed that he personally answers questions by email.

All I did was quote "Sage Advice" articles from years past -- which Skip himself wrote -- which said (again) "The answers provided in this column are not official rulings."

I didn't realized I have such cunning.

If I crossed the line, my bad. To me, he has always been the official voice. Granted, I do disagree with some of his rulings and answers, but at least I know what the designers' intention in the context of the rulebook ... before I houserule them.

But that is what Ranger asserted, and what I was responding to. He was definitely changing the subject away from his unfounded assertion that WOTC will be providing editing duties for future Dragon content.

that's what I'm feeling on this thread and past thread regarding his *air quotes * "unofficial rules answers."

As for my "unfounded assertion," I'm just a messenger who recalled a past response from one of the Paizo employee who posted on the Wizards message board regarding the status of the recently laid-off Skip Williams and his Q&A column. Go there if you search it if you wish to disprove me.

Yep. He still have his column in the Dragon the last time I checked. Only this time, Wizards must approve his answers since he is no longer an employee.

His 'rulings' get reviewed by the core rules committee, but I don't know if there is an approval process. Heck, they probably still run things past him on occasion. I would consider his rulings the next best thing to an update to the official errata. Hey, you gotta have something.

His email has changed; it's an AOL address now. Check the beginning of the new FAQ.

Sorry, I simply don't believe you. I asked for an attribution and you couldn't provide one. I'm not going to waste my time tracking down your assertions that you can't back up for you.

I'll chime in here and say Ranger REG is correct. I recall the posting as well. Also, Ranger REG in my opinion is a pretty honest guy and wouldn't purposely mislead anyone. So, I'd be willing to take his word for it. Many times people ask question in this forum that get answers without proof being posted. I myself have answered countless questions with no proof given.

Yep. Skip will still write Sage Advice, and the R&D staff remaining at Wizards will review it and give it their official stamp. Sage Advice will still be collected and stored on the WotC website as the D&D FAQ.
