Sailing Question...

Well, we can fix that. Quick, someone slap an octopus on his head! :)

Nerarly every time that I've been on open sea, it has been in a small fishing vessel - the first part of the day always started with me green and vomitting. Last time (c. 1995) I reeled in a big bunch of jellyfish sting on my line and burned the !@#! out of my hands while changing out the reel. I think the sea hates me :)

Carl, do you know about charting by cannon? That is the crew fires a cannon and going by the echo can determine where land is, if it has trees or not etc just by listening to the echo. If you know about it, OUT WITH IT MAN!

That's not a practice I'm familiar with, though it is the underlying principle of modern radar. I suppose a cannon might give you a general bearing and distance from the echo return under the right conditions. But I wouldn't expect to decipher a whole lot more than that.
