Sailors on the River of Worlds- Update

Reading this thread called to mind something left over from playing too much Magic - namely, Gerrard, the Weatherlight, and company.

Presuming some of your players have played Magic during that storyline, it could make for an amusing (or dangerous) encounter.

Otherwise, I am quietly making notes regarding this thread for my own purposes...

Thank you.

Nope. I think about the time that they started coming out with gimmicks like phasing (gee, this is the second time in two threads MtG has come up) I bowed out of MtG. However, my daughter has gotten into it and I have been reluctantly pulled back in. Still, I missed that whole episode and am not familiar with the story.

Are there any interesting ideas/concepts to be had there other than the mere cameo?

Have you been using anything like Planar Touchstones or Magical Locations (from Planar Handbook/Sandstorm and the latter from DMG II)

I like both concepts but haven't really had the chance to use either one of 'em yet.

Any powerful items that get mucked around depending on what plane you've set the current game in? I remember several Elric adventuers where Stormbringer wound up little more than a very heavy sword.

Planr touchstones? No. Those seem like they require a bit more positive player interest to be functional as anything other than a wierd planar site.

Magical locations? Some similar things have cropped up (like the mountain where a god of shadows was slain, and a river of darkness was getting pulled up into a vortex in the sky), but nothing using the DMGII rules specifically.

No, but I should. :] The dragonblood fighter's sword is proving to have been too much of a boon. (It's the "silver" enchantment from BoHM, which is basically turning out to be a bane sword versus 90% of the creatures they meet.)

Here's an odd thought. There is a plane where all constructs gain intelligence. Perhaps I could take it further and make all magic items gain sentience.

(We really need a devil icon. :D )

Is he bonded to the item?

Sunder is always a favorite of certain huge creatures like giants and their kin.

If the item does gain intelligence, you might want to do so via Book of Eldritch Might (complete of III). Some interesting options there.

Have you had the players enter Saltmarsh yet or is that a bit too mundane nowthat they're doing the whole planes bit?

How about Planar Factions? I've messed with the Flame one and the Necromancer one a bit in the background, but lack of active GMing has kept those ideas mere notes so far.

Using any bits from World of Warcraft? The revised races with their racial levels are pretty neat.

Yeah, that was the first thing that popped into my head, too. :D

No. I dig Saltmarsh. I like that it gives you tons of plot hooks for a city-borne campaign.

But plot hooks is not something I am in short supply of ATM.

I placed Liberty (as Dragonwatch Harbor), Bluffside, Freeport, and Sharn (as the jeweled city, though I am rethinking that one) as cities. If side treks take me to other cities, I'll plunder as the need presents itself.

As in from Ari's doc? I toyed with the thought of throwing one or two of them in, but the only ones that have had a major influence in the game to date are the Nameless Legion, the Combine, and the Brotherhood of Charity from Bok of the Planes.

I agree. I think I have decided to nick the tauren instead of DL minotaurs for my "civilized minotaur" race. (Magic and Mayhem has already made several forays into my game.)

I would also consider using several elements from "The Scar" by China Meiville - The floating City, The Aurac, Vampyr, Lovers, Mosquito people, and the scar itself are all wonderful elements for a game like yours.

Interesting thread. I found this through the thread over in the rogue's gallery and I think I might use something very similar to this as the next step in my Iron Heroes (soon to be hyrbid Arcana Unearthed) campaign.

Interesting indeed..
