Salt and Oozes

Oooo- I like that DR x/Salt idea; folklore from the middle ages and before often featured salt as a deterrent to bad spirits (hence the superstition about throwing salt over one's shoulder). Perhaps oozes could be made Vulnerable to salt, similar to vulnerability to energy types? That is, they take 1 1/2 times as much damage from salt weapons and/or spells. "Dessication" spells like Horrid Wilting often deal extra damage to oozes, so this is perfectly in flavor for that.

This is a really cool idea...but it is a bit beyond the scope of what I was trying to do. I was just trying to create a new alchemical preparation of sorts. As for making it a special material (similar to cold iron and mithral), that could be done rather easily. Maybe there is a special mythical brand of salt that can be worked into weapons? Maybe the Drow have developed special mining methods and stoneworking techniques to turn this magical salt into weapon-worthy arrowheads, sling stones, and hammer heads?

Could be on to something there, yo.

Salt is listed in the Players Handbook as a Trade good, It costs 5gp/lb.

use that price.

In such a case, the DM could (and probably should) adjust the tactics of the ooze. Sure, this particular tactic might work once...but after that, the oozes would probably resort to making only slam attacks after they taste salt on someone.

If you roleplay intelligence by the book, this is exactly what not to do. Oozes are mindless, they don't learn, they don't really adapt. They either run, or would just try to engulf you again.

Whoops....absolutely right. Most oozes have Slam attacks, and only engulf after a successful grab, so I guess slam attacks aren't illegal per se.
