While arguably it's not terribly creative, I don't mind this so much as 'monsters' like...

I'm sorry, but that's beyond lame.
Does it have DR 20/RPG-7?

I saw that thing before, but it wasn't blued, it was in stainless steel. The Scorpiotron from Wasteland. Gee, thats sad.

The Todd Lockwood piece is nice, but I'm happiest to see several pieces from William O'Connor. His chunky/blocky style really appeals to me, and always has.
I wasn't too fond of his work in 2nd edition, but I think his style has greatly improved since. He is now one of my favorite artists, along with WAR, Lockwood, Sam Wood, Mimura, and Djordjevic.

Good lord, there is something to match the silliness of the Phantom Fungus!

I mean, the Saguaro Sentinel is very funny! :D

There's one piece of art that I have an issue with, though, and that is:

Does this look like it could be from a sci-fi book, or what? Looks like a bulldozer's distant relative ...

Yes the cheese is certainly overripe in both cases....however they will both fit in just fine with my Gamma/Omega World/Thundarr campaign. ;)

Even more important than the return of Todd Lockwood... it looks like this will be the first book without any "art" (yes, the quotation marks are necessary) by Dennis Crabapple Cramer and Jeremy Jarvis.

While I would never wish anyone ill in the course of their employment I'm delighted to see that they're not represented in this book and hope that this is the first of many where this is the case!

I have to agree on the art, I was very happy to see Chuck Lukacs, William O'Connor, Mitch Cotie, Lockwood (even if only one pic, but a dragon!) and some of the others that are pretty decent. I guess I'm a bad person because I was even more ecstatic to see no Crabapple, Jarvis, and especially Baxa. For some reason Baxa often gets desert-esque type assignments (Darksun, Al-Qadim MC, etc.), and it drives me up the wall. I just can't stand his art.

I can just imagine first level characters confronting a Dire Tortoise.

'OMG, a dire tortoise! RUN!'

*pause*

'Er... walk quickly!'

*pause*

'Um... saunter?'

"Ok. We've retreated 20 feet from him, so we'll rest here for the night, and then prepare spells. Then, we attack. If things go poorly, we retreat with determined leisureness. Just remember, under no circumstance is the druid to wildshape into a hare."

I'll just say they have the potential to be interesting critters.
The Crawling Apocalypse.
Cursed Old One.
Cheliceram.
Waste Crawler (no matter the cheese factor, it looks different).
