Santa needs advice: PS2 or something else, and 4 player games

At this point, we are almost certain to buy Mario Kart: Double Dash (how does this compare to the regular MK, anyone played it yet)
I found it to be significantly inferior, but that's just me. The tracks are lackluster, the control and differentiation between drivers/karts to be poor, and the battle mode to be extremely disappointing (arenas are way too small, have a boring design, and there's only 3 of them!).

But again, that's just me - I'm sure others might find it fun.

My oldest will want a baseball game, and I haven't decided whether to go realistic or cartoony. Any advice there?
I concur with mojo1701 - Mario Baseball is great (in fact, all the Mario sports titles are, IMO).

You can unlock another two. One has an innovative idea with pipes on the field (but it smaller because of it), and the last unlockable one is quite neat:

[sblock]it's a floating tiled floor resembling 8-bit Mario, and it randomly tilts[/sblock]
