After reading the web enhancement, it seemed like a sathar would make a pretty cool sorcerer for D&D.

Mmmmh... Also an idea for my d20 Modern / Future thread! I am gonna design one or two Sathar with the FX AdC mage of d20 Modern, and maybe one or two things from d20 Future...

That also sounds cool. You have to love d20's universal goodness.

Alien Races in a Fantasy Game

Both Empire of the Petal Throne and Skyrealms of Jorune use alien races instead of Fantasy races for a fantasy world. The premise is that the planet (Tekumel or Jorune) was once on a major trade route. Then some accident happened (The stars disappeared in EPT or Earth fought a nuclear war in Jorune) that cut the planet off. Barbarity ensued (this was due to lack of metals and the fact that they were cut off from known space in EPT or due to the fact that the Shanta could detect Earthtec devices and would nuke them with Isho in SRJ) and the societies eventually evolved backwards. Both planets also have magic

In short, you could easily do this with future and D&D, get rid of the elves, dwarves, halflings, gnomes, and orcs and replace them with Dralasites, Weren, Yazirians, Vrusk, Fraal, T'sa, and Sesheyans (The Aleerins would be a stretch). Scatter a few left over tech devices, make the history long so that you could have magic items, make some interesting cultures (both games above have some very rich cultures), and you've got a cool campaign.
