D&D General Satine Phoenix is trying to make a comeback

I enjoyed some of Satine’s videos where she had guests and they’d talk about various gaming topics. It’s been years since I’ve seen her in anything though. Of course that’s probably because a big old scandal blew up in her face. I hope she learned some valuable lessons and can move on with her life.

Satine is a strange and toxic personality, to be sure.

But we've already gone off the rails in this thread criticizing her for things she has not done . . . and with plenty of things she actually has done to talk about!

Her quotes from the charm-and-AI video are certainly odd, but have absolutely nothing to do with Chick Tracts or the Satanic Panic. It's more New Agey mumbo jumbo than anything else. It's strange, and IMO sad, but not toxic in and of itself.

Shaming her for her past in the adult industry? Not cool.

Trying to link her to other toxic individuals without including the receipts? Not cool.

Discussing the attempted return of a D&D celebrity with a toxic history is fine, of course, but let's keep the discussion fair and reasonable.

Hey.

Someone asked a question. They did not make an assertion.

Suggesting the former is the latter without cause is also uncool.

When people cannot ask questions for fear of being scorned for doing so, we create an inability to make sure the truth gets around.

To explain myself: One of the major issues with both Chick's Dark Dungeons and large parts of the Satanic Panic is that they are driven (in part) by a fundamental inability to understand "make believe". Chick (et. al.) posit that playing a fantasy game of magic is no different than using and worshiping that magic in real life. It is a fallacy that is sad to see in adults and sickening when it is forced onto children.

In the sections that I quoted, Satine is promoting the same sad, sick fallacy. She is saying that her past spent mastering a game of fantasy magic has given her power of real magic inside of people's minds. This is dangerous and toxic on multiple levels. First, it's always a major problem to make claims that you can help people with mental health issues when you have no real qualifications or training. And, to my original point, she is actually saying that Chick was right. She is claiming to have the powers of Ms. Frost from Dark Dungeons, but believes that's okay because she's here to save Black Leaf instead of kill her. And that's a problem. A big problem. IMNSHO.

I hope she learned some valuable lessons and can move on with her life.

My takeaway from these interviews is that she's committed to moving on without learning any of the lessons she needed to.
