Savage Worlds Licensing

So, what's the deal with the SW rules set? I know that it's published by one company (Pinnacle) but that another company (Great White Games) releases stuff for it. And the huge amount of online stuff out there for the system is rather staggering.

Is it an Open, or even semi-open license, or are the rules contracted out? I'm sort of curious.

In related news, anyone got some good recommendations for SW E-Zines or websites? I'm compiling information, here. :)

Pinnacle and Great White Games are kind of the same company. Or they're created & owned by the same people. Or something. I don't understand it much myself. :)

I don't believe it's an "Open" system; there are other companies (that aren't Pinnacle/Great White/etc.) that produce Savage World products, though, so there is some sort of licensing program.

As for 'zines & websites, I assume you know about the official site, right? There's also Shark Bytes, which is an e-zine; a Savage Worlds wiki; and Savage Heroes, a fan site.

FWIW, those are just a couple of sites I've bookmarked; I don't actually play SW much, so there might be a whole lot of sites I know nothing about.

Great White Games is Pinnacle. Same company that's using different names (apparently it started out as Pinnacle, was renamed Great White and now is both).

It's licensed. Details are here (including a downloadable license agreement with the fees).
