Save my Game: The future of online Wotc content?

I'd bet money that the majority of columns in the new on-line versions of the magazines will be free, while the features will be subscriber only content. From an organizational standpoint, it makes sense to put columns like "Save My Game" under the Dungeon aegis.

Yep. I don't know anything for sure, but I'm pretty sure they've said that there will still be free online content, in addition to the subscriber-only stuff.

True, it depends on what they want to be free. There has been "free" online content since the new magazine launches (as in, don't need to login), but it's been pretty underwhelming.

WotC has said that the magazines will have more content than the print magazines. The cynic in me wonders if that is because much of what used to be free online content will be added.

Does the $10/month include Dragon and Dungeon?
Does that also include the online gaming, or virtual tabletop? or is that something separate that will be purchased through Gleemax?

Yes and yes. The $10/month is, as I understand it, for everything.

Wow. I just thought it was for the mags. Access to the online tabletop will definitely make it worth my while. However, I'd still like a print rag. It just won't be the same. :(

It's spoiled to think people in a hobby industry should support that hobby?
As a hobbyist who puts a lot of free D&D stuff up for free on a free website, why do I feel like chopped liver?

And for those who haven't been following closely the "$10/month" isn't final. It could be more, it could be less (less is very unlikely).

I had this discussion with a friend a few weeks back. Before the d20 STL there used to be some GREAT free content on the web. People published zines, wrote APAs and maintained fansites. Then everyone became a businessman and the free went away. Not all of it, of course, but so many nifty ideas are not freely traded and shared.

Keep on keepin' on, Nifft. :)

I surely will -- making stuff is kind of addictive. :)

Seriously, I've gotten more value out of the D&D Rules forum here than all the WotC "Rules of the Game"-style articles combined. Including errata on those articles.

And I've gotten more value out of the House Rules + Monster forums here than out of the D&D "Elite Opponents" or "Template of the Week"-style articles.

IMHO, EN World is the best value in D&D right now. I do give the site a bunch of money every year, but I'm still making out like a bandit.

Cheers, -- N
