Say you get the call from Wizards to Playtest 4E and you are not planning on picking up the game let alone ever playing it. Maybe you just love 3.0/ 3.5-
Yes, then I would playtest in order to compare what is good and what isn't.
Maybe you are angry about WoTC grubbing money
In this case I wouldn't because I wouldn't want to do anything that might help those greedy bastards, and I would refuse to sign an NDA.
Maybe you like another system better
In this case I probably would not because I just don't want to have to play D&D to playtest it.
Maybe (and most likely) you lurk and post on these forums and others to "Stir up" a little chaos and look smart and kewl.
I'm willing to bet that they are screening potential playtester's posts - as a result I don't think I would have to worry as they probably wouldn't be contacting me.

*strokes goatee* I think someone's a playtester here... :p

yeah...I wondered this myself. However as someone who is looking forward to 4e I would be pissed if a hater got a playtest spot.

OTOH a hater could do a good job, maybe better than a f4nboy who might just love everything about 4e even if it didn't work

Would you still accept the task and try out the game?

If I was not interested at all in the game, I quite obviously wouldn't, unless they paid me for the job.
