SC2 for Horror?

Hey Blastin,

Though it's a bit off, we're also planning a dedicated horror setting and toolkit called The Crucible in early 2008. That one will cover everything from lurking cosmic suspense to straight-up monster bashing to what I suspect you're looking for, monstrous intrigue, all wrapped up in a style of horror setting that hasn't gotten enough love. :) Previews for that will undoubtedly start filtering through our website, www.crafty-games.com, late this summer, and some of those might help you down the line.

More immediately, you should certainly check out all the sections of Spycraft 2.0 already mentioned. Other rules that will help you: stress damage and the Resolve skill (the game features built-in mechanics that mimic coolness under fire *and* sanity all at once!), some of the classes (the Sleuth and Snoop are your hard-boiled agent/investigators ready to go, with the Explorer and Scout you can take your game into remote environs to hunt those really exotic critters dripping with the good old Dark Matter), the Scientist will help any skill-oriented game overall but is especially helpful in forensic situations), and the Subplot system, which will add a lot of the character depth required to drive any personal horror scenario home. You might also want to drop by our forums, where the players have developed a fairly extensive number of tools to expand the game.

I also suggest you track down copies of the Delta Green material, which is sadly out of print but relatively recent and hands down the finest modern horror gaming material ever produced. There's a d20 version of the book near to release or actually in recent release as well, though I haven't seen it if it's out. Given your players' experience and your desires, it seems like that might help a bunch.

Hope this helps.

Patrick: Now how could I consider myself a Horror game fan if I didn't own a copy of Delta Green? I've been waiting for the d20 version;)
The rest of your post does make it sound like what I'm looking for. I'll be sure to check it out and stop by the site/forums. Thanks for the info.
