Hoard Scarabs, in Draconomicon, come singly or in swarms. Might that be it?

Indeed there is. It is lying next to me (the book, not the swarm). Quite a deadly swarm, CR 10.

I just took a look at the scarab swarm from the FF. Holy Moly! That's one tough swarm! I'm thinking it was based off the Mummy Returns movies...
