Scarred Lands: Ask the Sage

Alright boys and girls, time for the Sage to earn his keep!

Now for the limited time of Joseph Carriker's patience, I will endevour to ask our beloved developer any questions you have regarding upcoming 2004 books.

Questions about the Blood Sea, Edge of Infinity (SL Planar Guide), Echoes of the Past: Slacerian Legacy, and even CC4 and R&R3, I will endevour to ask and give back answers. Now understand folks he might say no. He does have that right. But I will say I will post a summary of my discussion with him here. Now no promises about TIME wise. But I figure with Jan through Feb being a bit of a slow time for the publishers, we could get a few questions answered.

Also I think I'd like to state for the umphth time, folks this warning: I DON'T CONTROL the Scarred Lands. I just get information. I don't have control over what gets published, what gets written or even how things are done. I'm just here folks as a fan and your mouthpiece if necessary. A man willing to inform and also do what I can to help with SL rules questions, queries on facts or fictions, and stuff of that nature. I am NOT the guy writing all the books. That these fine writers over here. (Points at the SL freelancers and the developers). So now folks that's over with. POST your questions! Or if you don't feel like but want me to ask anyway, email me.

Hi Nightfall,

You seem to up to date, and I haven't read sword & sorcery forum
for ages, so I don't know if these things have been asked.
My only questions about scarred lands are those things
they didn't print in their book, though they have mentinod they
should be found there most of time...

...So, happened to read this quite interesting prestige class in
players guide to wizards, bards and sorcerers called "Adept of Flame", which has tenth level ability "sacred immolation with mention about gaining "ignan template (see appendix 1), which is nowhere to be found.

So, whatever it's my blindness, been left out accidently, in some other book or so, I would be greatfull to learn what this elusive template is supposed to be.

If you don't aswer to these kind of questions oh sage, you can just tell me go to hell. ;)

I never tell people to go to Hell. I might however tell them they should talk to Belsameth. ;)

But regarding the Ignan template, I do recall that question being asked and Joseph Carriker saying that Edge of Infinity would have that template along with some others. I don't know exactly why they did it (space considerations perhaps but not 100% sure), but there you are. So look for that template there. The book is, I believe, coming out in either April or May, but it will be at least another four months I'm sure. It's not slated for the 1st Q of this year, but definitely the 2nd. So not too long.

Thanks for info.

Oh, and what's wrong with Chardun's realms? ;)

Was Edge of Infinity about slarecian stuff or that planar book? My dm would really want scarn's book for planes of existance.

I do hate when they do that, when some very important rule fact is mentioned it should be found in that book, or at least in be found in some net page or book that has been published earlier.

This doesn't make me buy those books, it makes me wonder should I have bought all of them in the first place, and should I continue doing so in the future, since after fluitlessly searching something puts me in bad mood. Nah, not really that bad mood, but anyways.

Remains me too much of my chaotic life, my house in mesh, my chaotic notes in my computer and my annoying ability to spot details. Those not important details.

Nah, in this case, it was more like on lines of I was making this high level ncp using that class. Oh, well I guess I have to pull of another one of my powergaming variations to replace the lost info part.

I have been recently reading all those players guides I bought, and they are actually quite interesting read. Though our main dm thinks there is lot "waste of space" stuff, that could have been filled with something more usable. But these are kind of "each of their own" things.

Oh, and some nice prestige classes. Finally something good for sorcerers too.

Well, but better quit now. Bye..

Not much but lets say I and Othordox Chardunites aren't exactly pals. :p :) Besides the Lady of Murder owes me a favor.

Edge of Infinity IS the SL Planar Guide. Echoes of the Past: The Slacerian Legacy, is the Slacerian/Psionics/Ruins book. So yes your Dm will want to pick it up. Amazon.com lists it being 160 pages and 23.99.

Sokay I welcome rambling. I can't explain the hows or whys such things occur. But I can say some times its mostly because of space reasons/page count. I don't know that to be true ALWAYS but there you go.

Hi,

Your way of answering is real nice to me.

Well, couple of questions came to me.

So, any idea how slarecians are handled in book to come.
I would prefer stuff of ruins and other legacies, about all the interesting ways slarecians died/were cursed, more monster, artifacts of lost race and thatkindofthings.

I do hope they keep mystery of that race.. well, mystery.

Edge of Infinity, yep, that's the name. Well, any idea how things are going to be in that book? I mean, how usable and easily joinable that material is for dm:s who have used great wheel corrupted to little more Scarn feeling for quite a long time now.

Also, at least our group hopes there would be more outsiders for Enkili and Tanil. They have been somewhat ignored. Savage Bestiary had quite a lot of interesting creatures. I haven't read it so much, since it's our main dm:s favourite toy...

...Unfortunaly.... (some of those critters are real nasty)

Our scarn games have gone with passing times futher from 'offical world'
I call that history line of games like:

Story of Magic and Chaos
Story of Dragons and Void
Story of War and Hunter

Well, then we have this game with other group, who meets less often, where we play more in published time line (perhaps because we meet less ofthen), we are playing last part of serpent amphora modules, actually. Characters are quite... well interesting. Mine wants to jump that sinkining boat, but we are middle of the hornsaw forest, so no such luck.

I don't think we ever recurrect damn elven god. We all despise high elves. Forsaken ones were just fine. why do those damn elf-fanboys and -girls always get their way. ;)

Nightfall, what kind of games you've managed to pull together?
Any storyhours?

Zelda, well answering rudely doesn't get us anywhere. Besides I don't see the point if I'm a Sage to be rude. I leave that to Yugman. Also I get time outs for things like that. :p :)

I don't have ALL the pertinent information regarding Echoes. But I believe there will a great deal of looking at some ruins that are either commonly known or recorded by others. One will probably be the place under Lokil but that's speculation on my part really. But I think it's a good idea considering what was mentioned in SLCS: Ghelspad. I'm also sure there will probably be a lot more monsters, artifacts, ancient powers and even some strange cults dedicated to the Slacerians.

I'm sure they will.

I have some idea. I talked with Joseph Carriker a few nights ago. (Part of the reason I posted on this thread to send me questions.) But regarding the Great Wheel I don't forsee too great a change to using a kind of Great Wheel. It will probably be different as I do know there is a plane for the Zodiac creatures, but other wise, yes there is an Abyss, Limbo, Hell, Seven Heavens and few other goodly aligned planes. Not sure about the middle parts but we'll see. Regardless I don't believe there will be any substantive changes for GH fans. I will make a point to ask.

Regardin outsiders of Enkili and Tanil...no idea, but I'll tell you what. I'll make a point of asking Joe if I see him this week. That and your other question.

Sounds okay by me. Certainly even I the Sage, don't always follow cannon. Example: My Termana game is dealing with the rebirth of That Which Abides/Jandaveos. But instead of using Faithful and Forsaken as a whole, I use in parts. And with some changes as well.

So far I run a mostly high adventure, some times political games. I had a Hollowfaust Story hour...but it died out due to my inability to keep it up to date. Hollowfaust is still my favorite campaign as it was my first. And now that I've gotten some online games under me, I've got some experience now. My Fangsfall game I like to call "The rotating party" as very FEW of the existing party stayed together for a lot of reasons. Currently my two Termana games I view as pallerals but dis-similar parties all sharing a goal of fixing stuff in the elven lands.

And yes I understand you not like there being high elves again. But some times I enjoy shaking things up. My changes for Jandaveos are going to be very unusual in many ways. But we'll have to wait and see.

Well, we also thought forsaken elves were cool idea, which is now wasted. Besides, I don't get it how happy-happy-joy suddely every elf get rid of that curse, return of god that way didn't seem to me that everyone suddely get their believe back, or rejoin power they perhaps traded for someone else.

Besides, after actually reading the books few times, I see the 'good ending' kind of afterthought. I'd have preferred Jandaveos restored as neutral evil being, corrupted undead being, or been destroyed as someone else absorbed his divane energies to become a new god.. and not a nice one.

Those kind of things create more interesting challeges and they change world to become place where heroes, even bad ones, are needed. Instead of their need being lessened. My receipe for succesful game story is, that each success must be replaced by new threat.

Well, no matter, scarn is great world for breaking up more stuff, and for resurrecting the old baddies, without having to invent my own. We did anyway... but don't we all.

Is there ever going to be material about Albadia and Darakeene,
our games use those lands a lot. Or did french people have them all? ;)

Oh, and please remain somebody writing this stuff, that Enkili has storm aspect too, not just luck/unluck and not plah... Madriel. ;)

As of now there are a lot of Scarred Lands books out there. One of the things SS seems to like to do is have prestige classes, feats, and spells that fit a book in that book. These scatters these things and can make them hard to find. Has there been any talk or could there be talk of an on line index? Just something having the titles of the classes, feats, spells, etc; a brief description; and where it can be found?

One of the things I really like is how the Scarred Lands have spells named after their dieties. It would be helpful for me if I knew where the different spells for such and such a diety could be found.
