Scarred Lands Question - Darakeene

First Post
I am looking for info on the Darakeene area of Ghelshpad. My DM changed it from Selzair to there and I am in need of info for background spice. Since I am moving this weekend and will be busy until my first gaming session in February, I am unable to go and get the CS for SL. All I am really looking for is a reason and the situations a 4th lvl Cleric of Madriel might find for being in that area. Any help would be good.

I know I won't be dissappointed.

NK

PS: Thank you to all of those who helped me on my previous inquiry.

I'll do my best Thud.

Reason to be in Darakenee: "You were born there.", "You're been sent as a missionary to help with the healing of the sick and infirmed." "You've been sent to Llwyganwr(sp), to aid in the recovery and healing as well as negiotate a treaty with the local Keltia tribes to help protect the city and the surrounding area from incursion from the near by Spires of Gaurak."

Those are some off the top of my head.

some other random ideas

* Your character is involved with the Knight of the Morning Sky and has been asked to a. clear out a town filled with undead b. track a powerful intelligent undead who has escaped Shelzar
*A would-be keeper of the Eternal Flame traveled out here bearing a flame to set up a temple. They never made it to their destination but divinations reveal that the flame still burns. You must discover what happened to the would be Pilgrim of Light and save the flame.

* According to some books there is a war going on in Darakeen (ask Night, he's read them and thus could tell you more). That means a lot of refugees and suffering, precisely the sort of place a devout servant of the goddess of Mercy might feel compelled to go.

I'm fresh out right now...
(at least of reasons to go related to your faith and class... there are lots of neat possibilities in termsof family, ancient vows, lost love and all the other things that motivate people)

Thud,

The books in question is the ONLY Scarred Lands novel series (at this point) called Dead God. It deals with the possible return of the forsaken elves' god. In light of this, one of the forsaken elves, a cleric of the dead god named Vladwen managed to convert (through politics) the people into worshipping the dead god. The War going on is over however. (At least last I checked...) But there will probably still be refugees and people in need. Wars DO take a while even after they are over.

Graf, don't worry you did fine.

Source of Info

Don't forget the Sages of the Phylacteric Vault (mentioned in G:CS). Any kind of library not tied to undead or obvious evil is always a good place to dig up information as are the Sages (Prestige class in RR2) themselves. My wife's game is based out of the area and is great to use as a starting place or as a base of operations for neutrally aligned characters.

why would you be in Darakeene

The faith of Madriel is very strong in Darakeene. You could be from there or sent there for any of the above reasons. Her faith has quite a following among the common people. So the possibilities are almost limitless.

Thank you for your help. The character is coming along nicely and the evolution of his backstory is starting to come out of the muck that is my mind. I will be posting more info on him for some more feedback. Again, thanks. :)
