Sci-fi RPG

Shadowrun has cybernetics, direct neural interfaced Virtual Reality, Genetic implants, and space stations. Firearms can be cybernetically linked. Melee weapons are monomolecular and often diamond coated. It was the second major Cyberpunk RPG introduced.

It's not Space Opera, but it's definitely sci-fi.

traveller, any version is tops. gurps second. anything that has super-lethal combat gets my vote. my old group was a huge fan of realism in their SF; that extended to combat, even if some fights ended in TPK's, they understood weapon lethality. mmm. . . plasma & fusion guns. . .

I've been a big fan of Traveller over the years. I have fond memories of a long running high school Traveller game.

I can't help but beat our own drum though.

If you want, check out our upcoming science fiction setting...

WWII in Space basically.

Don't ever put those two settings in the same sentence again.

Oh come on Shadowrun is Cyberpunk for D&D players that can't live without their elves, dragons and magic. Just like Urban Arcana is like a Shadowrun setting for D&D players that can't cope with sci-fi elements. :p

Shadowrun is Cyberpunk-lite but Urban Arcana is Shadowrun-lite!

2300AD is to be really recommend. It's even more 'realistic' than Traveller, no artificial gravity, you need spin habitats. Combat is pretty nasty as well and there is no high-tech "magic like" healing.

You mean Shadowrun from FASA, is it still in production? I know Blaine Pardoe which wrote for FASA's battletech line, we talked about Shadowrun at length one time, never played it myself though. Im going to grab dark horizons when it comes (talked to the developer and he said it would be done soon) out but till then I might try shadowrun if I can find it.

Any major distributor should have all of the Shadowrun books in stock. However, if you'd prefer to buy on-line, the best source for Shadowrun stuff is Stiggy Baby's For some reason that I can't figure out, Amazon seems incapable of getting Fanpro's stuff. Stiggy's has good sale prices, very fast mailing times (at least for me in Ohio), and great customer service.
