Scientist archetypes

Tinker Gnome

Adventurer
What are some archetypes you have seen for Scientists in various things? Here are some I thought of. Yes, this could be helpful for RPGs.:)

Mad Scientist
The classic Mad Scientist, this is the guy who cackles madly about his latest succesful experiment. Usually releasing it on the unsuspecting public. May have a very ugly assistant as well.

The Cold Scientists
THese people could be associated with mad scientists as well. They tend to be very cold. They seem to have no emotion and may speak in a very clinical manner about everything.

The kindly old man
This archetype is usually very kind, they may seem a bit eccentric to others. But they are good people. Throughout their whole lives they have accumulated a lot of wisdom, and realize that perhaps not everything can be explained scientifically.

Well, that is what I have.

Oh, and I am sorry if I have offended any one who may work in a field of science. :)

How about the super nerdy guy who hangs out in his lab all the time and can't have a normal conversation without mentioning some complicated scientific lingo?

Or the dashingly handsome science guy (ala many a 1950's B movie) who has the sole brainpower and strength to take down the nasty (or cheesy) alien beings from mars. Often B movie scientists are working for Nasa.

Then there's the psuedo - science guy...think X-Files...

There's the pulp Super Scientist, the bronze-skinned, hyper-intelligent scientist-explorer-philanthropist-race car driver-neuro surgeon (Doc Savage or B. Banzai) who invent time travel/antigravity/world-shattering weapons all over lunch and then go forth to conquer the universe and other dimentions.

Or the scientist who's stranded on a desert isle with 6 fellow castaways and has to use his knowledge and wits to create radios out of clamshells and contraceptives out of coconut cream pies.

Awww... that's Hollywood make-believe for you. I don't work for NASA; I just work on NASA contracts.

The Absent-Minded Professor type; he's smart, but completely scatterbrained. He can have a normal life, but he often has trouble with anything not pertaining to his field of choice.

The Tinker. Often a subtype of the Absent-Minded Professor, the Tinker screws around with everything, and makes it better (or worse, depending on your point of view). Also sometimes crosses over into the "Super Nerd" category.

Demiurge out.
