Hmmm... I just just looked back through my groups records and we've been playing a campaign for almost a year (usually weekly with several breaks for holidays and such) and the pc's are almost level 11.

If D&D4e is so easy to run and as balanced at all levels as the designers claim, adventures being ready to run after a quick read may not be so far fetched....

I'd still rather a DM who'd had a chance to read and digest, especially the boxed out "Read this to the players when they enter this room" text. That DM's far more likely to run a smooth, fun game without saying "Hang on a sec, I should have done something else".

Besides, easy to run and balanced at all levels doesn't guarantee well laid out and easy to comprehend printed adventures...

June, yes.

But Keep on the Shadowfell will be coming out in May. It will be an introductory adventure that will allow you to start your characters (and your campaign) early.

Hehe, I think it is more a question of finding out
- What's the adventure about? Who are the major players, what do they want?
- Finding logical gaps and holes that the players will stumble on.
- What parts of the story / implied plot will not go with my players. ("Hah! A capture scene. That will either end in a TPK, or the PCs escape, but it won't work." "My players will never fall for that girl!" "It will take 10 seconds for my players to know that both sides where playing each other!") and finding ways to circumvent such problems.

I think both is possible. If the advancement is similar to 3.5 (and indications are that it is slightly faster even), getting to 11th level till October should be possible.
IIRC, someone from WotC mentioned, the advancement rate was faster. I seem to recall something about leveling up every other session (because levelling is fun!). This would mean for a group being able to play weekly that the adventures are released just in time.

Though I really have no idea what they define as a "session". Is a session 4 hours of play? How much encounters do they put in one session?

I think our group advances approximately one level per session, maybe slightly slower, with 3.5.
