Scratching Your Nostalgia Itch

Wow! So, I'm not the only one wherein older music completely unrelated to D&D sparks that whole nostalgia feel. For me it's not just any ol' new wave tune, it's gotta have something to it and then...BAM! All of a sudden I'm four years old and flipping through my older brother's Monster Manual looking up dinosaurs and reading about sea hags.

That's what I'm talking about. For me, alot of times it's Pat Benatar, Bruce Hornsby, Don Henley...or many other 80s greats (1-hit wonders). You hear one of these and suddenly those forgotten memories resurface.

For me it's songs by Devo, Ultravox!, Tones On Tail, Tears For Fears, Duran Duran...completely weird, because I can't see any reason for me to associate them back then. These days they do. No sense at all.

I'm not sure I'd really want to go back to those games. Munchkinism rampant, pointless plots / no plot at all. We were basically just roaming the Known World, stealing and killing all we could. The DM had a really large binder full of detailed cities, with maps that had every building numbered.

So when we got to a town or village, we would start from house no: 1, attack it, rinse, repeat until we had sacked and killed the town or were driven off.

Oh yeah and we killed Hera (the greek god of .. um .. something) and Tiamat too ;)

Anything from the first Asia album makes me think of D&D for some reason.

If you don't have it, get Tome of Horrors by Necromancer Games. This is one of hte best products for the 3rd edition player who waxes nostalgic for AD&D. Plus it is useful for converting 1e modules.

Tome of Horrors, Creature Catalog, same difference. :D one is in print, the other available online for free. ;)

Agreed, both are great resources (speaking from experience :)), as is the CC forum.

However, I enjoy the 'credit' feature in the ToH. Gives you a bit of D&D history.
