D&D 3E/3.5 Scrying (3.5)

The Scry spell says "If the subject succeeds on a Will Save, the scrying
attempt simply fails." It then goes on to say "If the save fails you can see (but not hear) the subject"

So if the subject makes the saving throw, then the Scry simply fails: the caster sees and hears nothing. If the saving throw is failed, you can see the subject but not hear. Correct? My players and I aren't so clear on that reading.

Secondly, my players are found of moving the scrying sensor around ("I pull back to get a better view") while the spell only says "subject's immediate surroundings (approximately 10 feet in all directions of the subject)". Can a scrying sensor be moved by the caster?

That section has been errataed. It now reads "If the save fails, you can see and hear..."

On the second point, I don't see anything in the spell description which says you can move the sensor, so I'd say "No".
